i dont know how Arion does this. in vray (not c4d yet), you can use render region maps. not a simple rectangle area.would be great if Octane will have it.

Lasso selection for region render would be useful with +ctrl option for selecting separate regions.

100% agree
Would be very useful and time saving to be able to render different parts of the image also different materials based on material ID.
And as you say lasso selection and multiple area selection.
Material ID based rendering would also be very useful in animation renders.

What about a function to place some kind of hot spots on the image where the user want the render to focus more on, could be a circle with a adjustable radius (like the soft brush in Photoshop), in this way the render will blend nicely into less focused areas. This could also be used to smooth out shadow area and areas with hot pix.

After all, speed have always been one of the core goals for octane, this features would speed up the final render process.

this is very old function Random Control was teasing for a while before the release..-however the final implementations is far from perfect..why?

because it doesn't take into account reflections & GI - want it or not Your environment should be influenced by changing (in this example) the color.

so if that's what You want to do, simply go into PS & make the trick =) render mask in Octane (or use laso in PS), some curves, etc. - that's it.

"half baked solutions" is better not to be implemented as there's plenty of ways to do this now. Why waste time of developers?

I would do well not so easy..this function would allow the development of colors configurators in a very fast time, the issue of reflections do not see it a priority to what should be the main use.. :|

maybe You're right..as for some Guys it would save some time. I'm just curious, how engine would deal if of focus or slightly doffed situation?

I think in this case the image has to be to force all in focus. Or at least the part affected by the color change should have a break on the side not in focus.
