hi

i found a interior image that i really like. i think is has some smooth lightning and a nice atmosphere / mood. i therefore decided to use some time to see if i could create a copy of this, for practice reasons.

i have done this so far
- modeled in revit
- linked into 3ds max
- found and bought the items i could find
- modeled the tables in sketcup, exported to 3ds
- modeled the carpet using this toturial http://bertrand-benoit.com/blog/2011/02 ... rest-pack/
- tried to create materials that look the same (not easy for me)
- the 'spacewall' as i call the curved wall is done using displacement
- rendered using PT, 6000 samples, diffuse depth 8, glossy depth 8
- render size 4000x2000
- render time 10 hours (way to long i think)
- lightning, octane lightplane on top (sun gave to much contrast) power 800, samples 1000 (not sure what this does) - a octane lightplane for lightning the room. power 800, samples 1000 (not sure what this does).

what i still need, and could use some help for
- i can't figure out how to create the texture for the 'spacewall'
- finding the lamps used
- finding flowers used
- modify the ceiling texture
- modify the glass texture (no sure why, but it looks better in the reference)
- i have giving up creating the 'cobber' texture on the wall :-/
- trees need to be adjustet (to green / not sure how to get that huge contrast)
- i guess the (brown) mood is adjustet in PS, but not sure
- see if i can match the camera angle better (not easy i think)
- adding fire
- adding water
- create the ourdoor view

you are very welcome to give advices / critics / link to missing objects :-)

edit: added a very preliminary outside view

Problem with displacement :-/

I'm using a displacement map to create the rustic wall.

The displacement map is 9000px x 1000px. I'm getting some errors at some borders and some strange shadows.

Is there a way to reduce those errors, or is the displacement map feature not recommended for this type of use?

The displacement maps is setup like shown in image texture_a and texture_b - could the errors come because i add the 2d transformation?

thanks

Big project, with many details.
For a start it is not bad at all, need dedicated work on each single element in the scene. Try to focus on 1 object at the time and finish it with material and modeling.
Then in the end fine tune the lighting and material.
And for sure lot of trick that can be don in post in photoshop.

For this wall you want to have clear lines that's for sure. I would make it as a 3D model, not displacement. Should be easy in sketchup, if you need a hand let me know.

Hi Jorgensen,
I think the 'standard' response to the issue on the top left of your image is "have you played with the ray epsilon settings?" - try that.

On the other issue - the 'bleeding' - I can't help.

Nice images!

thanks seekerfinder and clausgs

i think you are right that i need to model the wall. i will try to do so in revit or sketchup.

the wall has some deform that makes it more 'natural', i wonder if this is modeled or somekind of modifier?

i will try to model the wall and se if this removes the stange shadows. or else try modify the rayepsilon parameter. it's now set to 0,001 - but i don't think that it made any change.

thanks

ps. added an update.

I wonder if those streaks are related to the displacement on the curve shape. It's weird - I kinda like them. It's almost like a dirt texture - like water streaks...

update

got the wall modeled in sketchup. it's better, but the 'softness' of the wall is missing, as i don't quite know how to achieve this. (also need to lower the wall)

i need to work on the 'cobber' texture of the wall to the left, as this gives some light / life in the left side of the view.

i have added a lamp over the large table (black body emission). this gives some 'noise' on the ceeling - would changing the samples of this help? (it's 1000 by now).

hi

i would like to add some flowers as those in the reference image (on the dinning table).

i have forest pro and hd flowers 2, and would like to use the violas, but it seems that all violas are in one file "HD_Vilola_01.max" and therefore can't be inserted as separated objects. an other problem is, if i use the octane material converter, all the materials messes up.

does anyone know if i can fix this somehow? or know of similar flowers?

i'm also searching for the flowers use on the 'outdoor' table (lilies?) :)

thanks

ps. i have attaced an image that showns how the violas should have been separated.
