Hello guys !

I'm currently working on a big interior scenes for a client and I was very worried by the amount of noise I get each time I added new lights with new rooms.

So, just sharing a useful (I hope) tip for interior scenes with a lot of IES or small emitters : when you have to render a view, make sure that lights that are not visible are hided ! If not, octane will compute everything.. and you'll get a very noisy image.

Let me know if it works for you ;)

We have had a lot of the same noise problems, but are getting some better results now by using PT, GI clamp 1, Caustic Blur 1, hotpixel around 0.5 for interiors. Worth a try.

I don't like to have a hotpixel value below 0,7 because of losing details. Hide unseen lights is way more effective to get rid of noise and slow renders for interior scenes :D

This post is about bringing a solution, not about resolving an issue ;)

Well actually I have to admit that once I had maaany small lights, and they were causing me trouble, noise, and hot pixels. Setting the Kernel to Path Tracing with GI_Clamp=1.0 actually solved the issue.
So I'd say it depends: sometimes it's a material issue, sometimes you have too many small lights and you might get rid of noise\hot pixels by placing a weak ambient light, sometimes you cannot and just set GI_Clamp=1.0.
On the other side, it would be nice from otoy to have some settings well explained in the manual, such as how GI_Clamp works, as well as some tips for solving common issues.
