Has anyone on here got Substance Painter and can tell me if it's any good. I already have DDO suite, and want to know if it's worth having both, as SD has a flash sale on at the moment.

Yo Gord. Over on Quixel forum (which I have not set up new account yet, since they moved forum) you call it Surface Painter.
I only played with SD & SP demos a ways back... settled on Quixel when still in beta - which seemed like a gamble - but thus far have been happy with my decision. Though I too would love to get the same answer as you - are both a good idea. They are just so different AND so very complex. I can't see myself wanting to master both. I do love working with nodes though. D'oh! Really wish QS could go standalone and move to nodes....

Yeh, I got Quixel suite too. I just love the partice painting effects on SP (or how they look in the demo videos).

Picked up Substance Indie a couple weeks ago... Gotta tell ya Gord, I've gone completely apeshit over Substance Painter. The more I use it, the less I like DDO, and SP might very well become my BFF. And I have not crashed this bastard once in over 20 hrs of abusing the shit out of it. I'm convinced more than ever that Teddy is going to have no choice but move to a standalone, if he truly wants to compete.
However, I now own both Quixel Suite and SD/SP/B2M.. there will still likely be a place in my pipe for some Quixel here and there, and NDO might prove to be indispensable. I'm assuming that there won't be any bringing of Megascans into SP/SD, and those are going to be desired... so there you go.

Frank,
I just watched a tutorial on SD for Modo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmM1xGWtDNM
This is a kickass product.
What is your pipeline with SD? Are you using it for Octane purposes as standalone or within any 3D app?

Haven't really played with Designer much yet - just Painter, for grunge and bumps/spec etc, inside LW. I will report back when I get a little further and not in such a time crunch... Got stuff due in the morning..

All rendered with Octane Archicad plugin?
I remember the workflow was hard to get correct UV and normals usable in Substance Painter, but it was to be done as you can see.
Hard to explain the workflow, because I did not right it down while experimenting and I will have to do it again to recall.
But as said, it is to be done![]()
Cheers,
