Hi,

Hoping for some help please. In the manual it states that when the Poser camera is moved this will update the Octane Render Viewport. I have seen this happen in tutorial videos for other people but this has never happened for me. I have upgraded several times from the very first version but cannot seem to get this working, random button on/off combinations have proved fruitless.

I have 'Auto Refresh' set to ON in settings, all other settings are off.

Is there a basic step I am missing as refreshing the entire scene every time I nudge a camera angle slightly has finally got me nearly bald?

The Octane viewport will refresh if you move the camera in poser. With Autofresh ON or OFF
It will however only refresh for the Main, Aux and Dolly camera.
I have had a few times where the camera no longer refreshed, but restarting the plugin fixed that. This has happened 3 or 4 times in the past year.
If the octane viewport does not refresh with one of those camera, there is something wrong
Are you sure that the "freeze" button is not active (the second icon to the right in the Settings tab?
Configuration: Windows 11 Pro, I9 12900K, 128GB, RTX 3090, P12 b1029

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Everything I have rendered has used the main camera. The freeze button is definitely off, no red cross. Puzzled.

You need to also have the Poser camera scaled to 100%. Pls see http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=91. You can override this in the configuration (http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=32).

Hi Paul,

Thanks for weighing in.

Here is a simple process I have tried.
Set Poser to load in Factory State from preferences
Close Poser
Open Poser (Andy2 in the scene)
Open Plugin
Open viewport
Rotate camera

No update of the viewport. The main camera is showing as 100% on all scale dials and 'Allow scaled Poser cameras' is unticked in settings.

I know this must be something basic I'm either doing wrong or not doing but I am really not sure what it is

Sorry you are still having issues with this.

Try ticking 'Allow scaled Poser cameras'. And make sure Lock Changes is not enabled (it's the Refresh button with the X through it left of the Resolution Lock button).

Also, which camera are you using? How are you rotating it? Is the camera parented to something other than the Universe? Can you pls send me the pz3 file for the scene you use above?

Thanks

Hi Paul,

I have found the culprit(s). It has nothing directly to do with the scene. It is being caused by a couple of windows I have open at the same time. I run a couple of things by Netherworks from startup - MATWriter Panel and Scene Toy. Both open in floating windows. They run from a startup script. If I close them then start a new scene viewport refresh works, woohoo.

Couple of strange things though, if I close either one of them and leave the other open - no refresh, I have to close both to get it to work. Also I have some windows by Shaderworks loading from the same script and this is not having any detrimental effect. So it appears that it is not the startup script but something to do with the specific scripts I am running.

Not sure if there is any way round this from your end. I will try contacting Joe (Netherworks) on the RDNA forums and see if he can shed any light on it.

Thanks for your input.

That makes sense. The camera sync is done via a "PoserPython callback" - and only on callback can be enabled at a time, so if another plugin has grabbed the callback, Poser won't send the camera change commands to the Octane plugin.

Just to close this thread out to resolution, Joe (Netherworks) has very kindly sent me a slightly modified version of his scripts that resolves the issue completely. So thanks to all for helping track this down.
