Hi all,

I am really interesting in using the multi GPU function of Octane and since I am about to update my existing hardware the following question came up- would it make any difference if I bought a motherboard with 4 PCI-E 2.0 x16 or sticking with my current 2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 and 2 PCI-E 2.0 x8 will give me the same speed in Octane? I do not know too much about computers but the way I explain it to myself is that x8 will give me twice as less than x16 lane in terms of GPU rendering speed. Is that correct? I intend to buy 4 GeForce GTX 470/480 and need to know what is your opinion on that dilemma.

Thanks a lot.

Whichever one is cheaper will do fine. The only time the 8x or 16x comes into play is when the model is first being loaded onto the video cards. If you are doing a lot of animation then you might see a difference if rendering a movie or something.

for 4x GTX470 you should get a 1000 watt+ supply.
however, i would recommend 3x GTX480 instead as that gives you more memory.

Thanks for the reply guys. That's good news since I won't need to change my current motherboard. Have a nice one.
