hi folks!
i'm just finished a nice talk and test with my friend AE's guru, and his new GTX 980.

as annouced by Todd_Kopriva Adobe Employee (the after effects guy):
- AE full ray-tracer use nvidia optix 3.x (before 3.6.3)
- this optix library does NOT SUPPORT anything new thant GTX 780 (not 780ti nor any new maxwell based cards like 970 or 980)
- this full ray-tracer package is a dead end and will NO MORE be supported by adobe... thant means never ever able to run gtx980 with it.

ok so new alternatives :
I) octanerender
- OctaneRender plugin for after effects. this one has been annonced at Sigraph 2014, and i just found only 1 video for AE and another 1 (impressive) for photoshop
- since Octane do NOT use Optix and it's own SDK is already compatible with Maxwell, it will be the ideal/easier new full ray-tracer for AE.
- but any news ? it's seem to go nowhere ?

II) cinema4D integration and GPU render
- here we have much more choices, and i do hope that in the cinema4D plugin scene (c4d) imported into AE, we do have a new option after "software render" called "GPU render"? can somebody confirm this ?
* this GPU render can be done with either Octane (own's SDK) or Optix based ones (like FurryBall)
* i guess the most advanced support is from Octane (because FB is in beta), but FB offer a wider features support (like advanced materials)?

III)
the famous "video copilots elements 3D" with does NOT do ray-trace, but use advanced 3D tricks, especially in version 2 (comming in December). all is done only using OpenGL, and it's instantaenous realtime on the GTX980; even with a 4k sized scene.

****
all the GREAT thing about those plugins/render is that the objects/portion of timeline of AE are accelerated by the GPU while rendering/exporting with CPU, so AE in now faster!

all the best, and please feel free to comment,
frédéric

hi, about AE plugin I can give some details. it will work as a effect and possible to use on different layers. will support render pass outputs. possible to import the scenes/objects in orbs, and or obj formats. object animations is supported. also you can use any layers as a texture over a object. that's all atm, cu

hello aoktar!
i'm very glad for your answer, and hear some news about this living project.
it's seems that it will be a huge improvement vs actual optix 3d renderer.

have you any date of release? is there some beta test planned? also i guess the price will be around 400 euros like other plugins.

for my point II) i will make some tests soon and post results.

I can't give exact timings. But it's under a well progress. And i don't think there is a direct competitor for Octane. Octane is on different category against other render plugins. Also we can start a beta period when we are feeling that's ready. I suppose that would not be too late. I think it will be released as a beta price as other plugins but Otoy will decide this.

hello! no there is NO MORE (or even ever!) competitor when you have a maxwell (and future) cards. besides, for what i understand you're software will simply be AWESOME versus what people know from the current Optix plugin :)
can't wait to test it!

best,
fred
