Hey guys, thinking about updating my System...
I´m currently working with a single GTX 780 4GB, so I thought the best choice is either buy an additional 780 or upgrade to a Titan and sell the 780...
there´s probably other options in a similar price range that I´m not aware of, if you have any ideas I´m open to suggestions =)
best wishes
[Hardware] GTX 780 x2 / Titan

The 970/980 I think are cheaper than the Titan, not sure what RAM configs they come in, but I understand they perform well and that they get a performance boost from Octane 2.13 while everything else takes a hit. I'm sure people have put up performance results on other parts of these forums.

Take your time..and read through these.

Just an FYI - if you are planning on upgrading your GPU's just for Octane, all good...if your a heavy gamer think carefully. I have 2 x Titan Z running out of my motherboard via 2 of (x8) PCI-e lane without any loss in rendering capabilities.
It was scary at firs cause it happened by mistake, the Titan Z was too fat to fit on the first (x16) PCI-E lane...now once I relocate my solid state from that lane it frees me up with potential for another GPU to power monitors only. Still doing my homework.
In one of those threads a system is running 2 x 780s + a Titan.
If I were you, buy another 780 for now and save those those dollars for a Titan later when pricing drops.
Of course all this will depend on your motherboard.

Would it not be worth waiting for the 8GB 980's that are supposed to be arriving Nov/Dec? If I was upgrading my 780 that would be what I'd do. The Titan range is great but very expensive in comparison to the 980 range and I'd rather have more VRAM.

Another thing to remember, as of 2.13 Titans and other older cards become a little slower, while 970/980 become a bit faster. In one test I did using PMC, 2.13 was ~17% slower than in 2.12.1 with 2x Titans.
Edit: Though apparently 780s are still faster than 980s.

It seems choosing the right GPU is a dark art

Now that is a big slow down.SiliconAya wrote:Another thing to remember, as of 2.13 Titans and other older cards become a little slower, while 970/980 become a bit faster. In one test I did using PMC, 2.13 was ~17% slower than in 2.12.1 with 2x Titans.

Yeah, wasn't even a complicated scene, was a sphere with the cherry(?) red car paint mat from the liveDb on it, sitting on a diffuse white plane, lit by 3 single plane mesh lights.Laticis wrote:

Thanks for the input everyone!
So it seems that for now, 780 / 780 ti is the way to go instead of 980.
Let´s bring the Titan Black into the picture, is there any major speed improvement or is the only advantage the 6gb memory? Comparing 1 Titan Black to 2x 780 / 2x 780 ti, that is....
anyone has 2x 780ti and experienced problems due to the limited RAM?
thanks and best

But unfortunately for you that says nothing... it all depend on your own needs depending on the scene sizes you want work with, but also bigger render size fills up the GPU RAM.
(I went for Titans 6gB too, to be sure being able to do larger scenes once a while.)
