On Octane Render 2.12.2
Materials:
1 - Alpha is black in viewport
2 - Materials preview only "sphere"
3 - It would be great to have button "use settings from: diffuse" on opacity channel to not set over tons of materials Image Texture-browse image-set frame rate-set loop-etc...if this was just done with diffuse and now you need to get alpha with the same way +set mode to alpha..OMG
4 - Would be nice to have material glow
5 - Material>Editor>Animation Preview: Not working. Can't get work Animated Preview in viewport.
6 - Material>Editor>Editor Display: Always on Combined mode and this mode can't be switched.
7 - Material Mix: It will be cool to have special button "Merge Mix". By click on this button mixed materials will be combined inside one material so we can put this on C4D library. So basicly it is kind of Material Mix 2
Yes it will be looks messy but better messy then not to have possibility take it from lib4d as octane DB for me is still confusing.
My Fantasy (you can ignore reading this
):
8 - What if Octane Render will have option to buffer image sequence in a selected range(or auto) if you have a lot of free memory in GPU during rendering...this can save time of preloading images each frame from HDD. Same technique can be used for objects.
9 - Special render mode: Masking Rendering. This rendering process must compare bright areas vs dark and make a masking. Then while rendering Octane will use this masking and light areas will get less priority and mostly will render slower but blacks will got most GPU power and at the end i imagine clean render faster

I would also like to have the ability to change the material preview scene and use custom scenes like you can with Cinema and Vray materials. If possible I would love to see the material preview object from standalone.

2- It's a sdk limit.
3- Possible
4- Not a job for plugins, sdk limit
5- yes, correct.
6- maybe on the future
7- Nearly imposible. Need very big revisions, dangerous!!! You should use Livedb user category. Also i'll expose localdb functionality to acces the materials which is save from standalone.
8- ......
9- Coherent mode works like that

What if you don't use the SDK for the material preview? Is it possible to just grab the scene file from 'C:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R16\library\materialpreview' and render it separately? This is what Vray and the standard renderer does.
Thanks for advice! I thought this and much more to do, don't worry. But if we set a different rendertarget, current render will be lost. I can't see a good way to use second scene for previews and continue the render.shawnfrueh wrote:What if you don't use the SDK for the material preview? Hi Aoktar,
1.
i like to have an bigger max sun size than 30,
because sometimes i like to recive more smooth shadows from the sunlight (for small objects)
2.
furthermore i like to see an adiustable intensity for the shadows like 0 to 100%
Thank you very much Aoktar!

Hi Ahmet,
don't know it is plugin thing or not. I'd like to define render region area with mask. not just a single rectangle.
