Hi

I have been working on a scene and in the last 2 days, its taking 4min to get to the live screen.
a couple of days before it would load in 1min,

i deleted all the materials and still 4mins

its only 1670mb out of my 3gb space.

the rendering speed is fine, its fast.

thanks for any info...

Hi, how much polygons do you have? Have it same content as two days ago?;)
Material transfers don't takes big times. Only polygon amount can cause big preparation times. Delete half of your objects try, then delete half of rest test again.

I don't know if this is Your case but remember that having multiple small objects takes more time to "process" them, preparing to render =) try to find what exactly is causing Your slowdowns =)..

Ok, i added trees so it makes sense now.

Can i ask?
If i add them with a cloner, does the poly count still go up vs adding them as individual trees?

thanks

tests are best to be experienced. make these test and see what happens
make a cube with subdiv 100,100,100. clone it 100 times without render instances. Check export time and render info for triangles and free vram. Then activate render instances do it same. Decide yourself

Hey Philliplais,
yeah, high poly trees will increase the time it takes to export to the renderer. Still... 4 minutes is a lot!
One thing that might be worth a try it to make sure the 'render instances' button is on inside the cloner object, since this way it will computer less 'original' polygon geometry.

One thing to be careful of - you can't use render instances on something that's already using render instances deeper in the hierarchy. -Octane will not render the object otherwise.

Anyway, give render instances a go and see if that speeds up your export times!

Oh yeah, and if you're looking to use trees outside of a cloner and place them individually, use an 'instance' object. to duplicate your single tree. The instance object has a 'render instance' button that means it will calculate less original geometry, much like the cloner as I just mentioned.
Hope that helps.
