Hi everyone. I just purchased Octane 2.x but have not finalized a graphics card purchase for it. I realize there are literally hundreds of comments in this forum going back and forth about these cards. What I'd really love to get feedback on is just a straight up answer on which card performs better specifically in Octane 2.x currently. I understand that there are efforts being made in Octane to accommodate different processing architecture but honestly I'm not terribly interested in all the back and forth. Just want to get down to work in the most efficient way possible in Octane. Thank you all for your anticipated expertise and guidance!
Tobias

780 & 780 ti are faster. 780 6gb is hard to get. 780 Ti has 3GB. 980 has 4GB.
If you can afford get one titan Z - fast as 2x titans black and has 6gb in Octane and occupies only one slot.

Is the performance difference between a 770 vs 780 really all that different? I see marginal differences in the specs in terms of CUDA cores and texture fill rate. Just wondering if it's really all that and worth the $100 price difference.

Perhaps this card could be worth it.

roughly speaking 780 (based on gk110) is ~TWICE as FAST as 770 (based on gk104), but that depends on actual speed that cards runs in certain environment.. as Your airflow in the case, cooler design do make a noticible difference..TogTobias wrote:Is the performance difference between a 770 vs 780 really all that different? 770 is rebranded 680.. =) with slight improvements.. nice card, but it doesn't stand a chance to come close to 780Ti or even 780.. hope that helps =)
If You want 4GB card, I'm selling my old 670, slightly cropped 680.. (look at signature) for twice as low as You would pay for new 770 - quite a good deal =) if you wish to get more speed go for 780 (or even 980 if You're ok with that 4GB - seems Guys made a nice progress with last iteration of Octane - speed improvements on Maxwell cards are catching up Kepler based cards..)
I just bought that 780 card. Found it on eBay brand new for a good price. Eventually my plan is to build a small GPU box of about 4 cards. I have to say I'm really loving Octane. This is a game changer for us that will definitely have our clients quite happy.

Isn't it worth adding 50$ to get 4 GB card? Or 25% faster 780Ti?TogTobias wrote:I just bought that 780 card. Found it on eBay brand new for a good price.
