Hello everybody,

right now I am doing some test renders with low max samples of 111 in direct lighting and GI_AMBIENT_OCCLUSION which takes Octane 1:30 per frame. But as soon as I switch the passes on the render times go up to about 11:00 per frame so almost 10 fold the time.

I am using geometry for the gras instead of the grass shader whats obviously one reason for the long rendertime, but in the worst case scenario I thought the rendertime would "only" double.

Am I missing something or has anyone got tipps on how to speed up the passes especially the z-depth?

Thanks
Ralf

Probably rendering the Beauty pass completely separated from the Z-depth would work.
Try to render the Beauty without the Z-depth and then render the Z-depth, with lights off and see if that works.

Beauty passes is calculated while main rendering done. Info passes will start after "min. info start samples" value. You can think this is a seperated process. But anyway Z-depth pass should take a few seconds only. After frame completed, saving can takes a few second. This is related with resolution. anyway i can't see a reason to take 11:00 or so. I can see you are not using last version (2.12.1 or 2.12.2 test). Please update and test again.

Note: you should keep in mind, every pass will spend a memory as renderbuffer or so. Be aware of memory problems while using many passes

Thanks to pBarrelas, that did the trick at first BUT also thanks to aoktar.

After updating to 1.12.1 the rendertime increase with added passes seems to be gone  Guess I should update more often. I would not have thought the update would give that big of a performance boost. I check aoktars version thread every few days, but only update when there are bigger changes, because I am a bit cautios to install the newest beta right away in fear of problems.

It is great to see aoktar working so hard on the C4D plugin, releasing updates almost every two weeks and also finding time to check on the forums. THAT´S what I call good support.
