Laticis wrote:Hi Smicha and Rappet,

I had a PC Guru around before looking at our options and the reason we didn't lean to that option was due to bandwidth. ( PCI_E - 5 x 8 )

But thanks you your simultaneous posts its not going to hurt to set it up like that for a test run.

Thanks heaps :)

Will post results soon.
Hi Laticis,
:?:
All the 5 black slots are pci-16 to my knowledge
Not?
Edited: I will look into this to get to know more about my mobo

Hi Rappet,

According to the Block Diagram

PCI E - 1 x 16
PCI E - 2 x 8
PCI E - 3 x 8
PCI E - 4 x 16
PCI E - 5 x 8

Expansion Slots: 5 x PCIe 3.0 x16 Slots, support up to 4-way mode

- 1 way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x0 /x0
- 2 way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16 /x0*, 16/ x0/ x0/ x8 /x0**
- 3 way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16 /x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8 /x0**
- 4 way mode: x8/ x8/ x0/ x16 /x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8 /x4**

God I wish I could comprehend this stuff, I just like using them - my mate likes knowing what makes them tick :)

Cheers Ady

Cheers,
I have no experience with different bus x16 or x8 or x4 settings neither different cpu cockets. So I cannot tell.
Yes - the CPU is used a lot when manipulating the scene, but my old 2600k at 4.5GHz does excellent job. I am not sure how to compare different cpus for octane purposes.
Maybe if we had a large obj file and measure loading times...

Hi Laticis,

I am not that of knowing it, but just learning with help from the other guys and reading stuff,
but trying to understand all this interseting stuff, and not only using it ;)

There are different types of MSI X99's
You have the same mobo, right?
MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC

Here it says 5x PCI-Ex16

Laticis,

If you want to know what you gain and what you loose in terms of performance just take one Titan Z, insert it into x16 slot - measure loading times, switch it to the x8 slot and do measurements again. I bet there is no substantial difference but curious about the results.

A good idea.

Right now both GPU are in PCI E 3 & 5 ( x8 ) - putting the solid state in now....will boot up and post the score.

Yeah, heap, heap, heap  , I was going to say that too about whatever specs... Just plug on in and test it.
I do not understand a thing about the black diagrams, but when it says
"Expansion slots include five PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots"
http://wccftech.com/msi-x99-motherboard ... ming-9-ac/
then I hopefully assume it correctly that it is just all x16?

Probably this x16/8 will have minimal effect on just loading the scene into the GPU and not on rendering it?
Would be nice to know more about this?
In the end the only thing that counts (for me) is the loading time and renderspeed.
Curious to your findings Laticis when you actually switch Titan to other slot and test loading and rendering.
I can also test the slots by using my first TitanBlack in the first slot, and the other TitanBlack in the other slot ;)

Wow....this is all very strange.

System seemed a little sluggish, probably due to the config, screen resolution was like being back in the 90's till it all kicked in.
Guessing the solid states new placement had something to do with that too.

PCI E 3 & 5 ( x8 )

Here is the kicker...please see attached.

Still seeing only 2 cards though and the Ms/Sec is exactly the same...with fluctuations here and there of course.

That aspect is a little concerning. I cant do any major scene work till my NAS is sorted and get access to my content and scenes.
