hi guys, i wanted to know what octane's equivalent to luminance is... i don't really want to emit light from my objects or have any GI, i simply want to have hundreds of animated textures in 3d space. i don't want to use the diffuse channel because i don't need any shadow or diffuse calculations.

i have a city with thousands of planes with a 360 sperical camera flying around (which is why i cant achieve this with standard c4d), which is why i want to keep everything as optimized as possible.

all help appreciated, thank you!

there is no way to do without casting light. You may try low values of emissions.

i set my render settings to GI_AMBIENT, seems to remove any sort of AO and shadows and makes my renders faster, i do still have diffusion tho...

i'll try out your suggestion aoktar

unfortunately, low emission values made my plane almost invisible.

i included a picture to show the difference.

the result on the left is just diffuse and opacity and the right is opacity and emission.

it's a fast render at the moment, i just have A LOT of frames to make and i want to optimize everything (i don't have the best card on earth either)

there is no other magic. You may try to play with camera imager parameters to make it more visible. I have requested this kind of material support from octane guys.

alright thanks aoktar, i decided to stick to my simple diffuse + opacity combo with gi + ambient.

the city is coming along tho and it does RENDER FAST!

looking forward to simple luminant textures in the future, the 360 camera really is a cool feature to play with when you can fly around countless geometry!

A luminance channel (or some equivalent) is very high on my list of priorities for a rendering engine because I like to integrate photographic imagery and animated sequences into my 3d renders. I'm a bit surprised this doesn't exist.

Has there been a way yet to create an image that is same brightness as source file but not cast as light? And not receive light as well? Thanks. A
