NOTE: I think I found a bug in the material export that duplicates materials during the export. Later today I will release version 0.03 of the exporter plugin that provides a simple material conversion to the MTL format and that fixes this problem. I just have to do a few more tests.
Hi all,
attached you will find the next version of the Octane exporter. This time the "Render" button works and the edit fields in groups "Film" and "Camera" should work now (except "Motion Blur"). If you have set up your Octane binary and click on "Render" Octane gets launched and will open the exported OBJ file. If no Octane scene file with the project name exists yet, a new one is created. If there is already an OCS file, the OBJ export will be loaded and relinked, i.e. the materials of the Octane scene will be assigned to the geometry of the new OBJ mesh that has the same material name. This way you can change the geometry in C4D while not having to recreate materials again.
Important: As everything is done using material names you should avoid material name dupes. Duplicate material names are handled to some degree it's a lot better to have unique material names to start with.
On Macs please choose the .app file as Octane binary. The plugin then determines internally the full path to the actual binary inside the application bundle. I couldn't test the launch of Octane on my Mac with all those command line parameters, but I hope it works. If not, please let me know and I will try to fix it.
Camera export works pretty straight forward: Select a camera that should be exported to Octane. Film offsets are not supported in Octane yet. If you enable the export of the focal depth, either the specified depth is used or you set the value to 0 and the focal depth (focal distance) of the camera object is used.
Thanks to Mantra who has updated the Russian strings again.

Materials are not exported correctly yet. You have to set them up yourself in Octane. You then save the Octane scene and if you then change your C4D scene, you can easily update the Octane scene using the relink mechanism.smoove.o wrote:hi,

As a better material export seems to be the most requested feature now, I will work on a better material export for 0.03. Keep in mind though, that I will probably never be able to export materials from C4D to Octane via OBJ/MTL files, in a way that you don't have to tune the materials in Octane. The reason is that C4D and Octane materials work quite differently and that materials in OBJ work differently again.
Cheers,
Marcus

Could you please send me a test scene, where that happens?ribrahomedesign wrote:thanks
