No rental in a big lead. A clear message that so far the voters don't want rental at all. Will otoy get the message though? Would they care? The octane cloud service is worrying since this is the path to a rental only product. Or maybe I'm completely wrong and 2 years from now there's still octane perpetual licenses, which would be great!

Private non-affiliated survey in big lead. A clear message that some people (how many ... unknown) do not want an imaginary rental service. Will this message be validated? This survey is a worrying survey since this is the path to surveying anything that you can survey.

Maybe I am completely wrong and in two years from now I will wish I had paid closer attention to this survey...

Forgive me... I am being a bit of a dick... I understand your concern. I just think the way you went about voicing it is rather unusual. Yes... so is my response I'll take what is coming to me on that regard.

Here's a thread that's popped up at Ipisoft regarding subscription based software. +1000usd for a one year contract.
http://forum.ipisoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9196

Personally I'm on the Adobe cc. But I'm not going to be in it forever. I already have photoline and hitfilm as backup for home use. When Adobe cc raises its prices I will switch. At the company doesn't matter I'm not the one paying the subs its my employers . For 3D, 3dmax at work and lightwave at home. But when Autodesk goes rental even my employers are thinking of alternatives.

I am without a job, so paying for the standalone and plugin licences was enough fun as a one-off. No way in hell I'm going to a subscription model. I suspect my poor gfx cards will drop off the supported list (so far as compute model) goes soon enough and not going to even think about having to upgrade those! ;)

I think examining Corona's new licensing model would be more appropriate. And who in there right mind would rent Octane for the same price as Autodesk charges for Maya? Or Adobe CC for that matter? Those options are irrelevant. But hey it's your poll.

well I'd say it's not a spell check, but rather..idiot check (don't get offended). I've tried to explain You, but it seems You don't get the point. It's almost non-moderated forum, so if You want to ask something, do that properly!

It's like, if I would ask something about upcoming V3 octane, but just go to release forum & made a title
"Octane Render V3 is here!"

wouldn't that be dumb? So, isn't it dumb to have topic like You have here??? You're provocating.. & for such reasons, Your research doesn't have a fundament to stand on, 'cos some user simply don't give a s(*^ about Your questions if Your information is misleading! they simply turn Your thread out, 'cos it looks..well, childish..

so, if You want proper response & proper conversations..first simply make proper statement, ask right questions..etc. - at least that's my opinion =)

Octane Cloud Service is completely different product, targeted to different users & it has nothing to do with regular Octane.. =)

It was based on AWS (but now as I understand they are building their own servers - might be wrong about this) though it will be the first application on newly released x.io. so, I think, there's nothing to worry about.

OTOY probably has a team of marketers who understand & could examine inpact of subscriptions service only.

Even if You're right (let's say) I'd see how You would start talking if let's say subscription would be less expensive than "regular type licence' =)..

Overall, You can't avoid the change, all this cloud movement, subscription based thing..one day it's probably going to be a norm =) for already mentioned reasons like Piracy, Steady income flow, etc..

You need to do the same idiot check. Don't get offended. Rental schemes have nothing to do with piracy. Adobe cc has pirated version all over the net. Someone on this thread already said that before. Am I pissed about it since I'm on cc and other people are getting it for free? Nope, because cc is still priced fair for now. But maybe not in the future.

Rental scheme is profit driven for shareholders.

Hey geo_n, I'm with you on this. 100%.
But could you add [Official announcement] in front of your topic title?
It kind of gets lost at the moment. Thanks !

I put unofficial poll.
I think anyone who's in these forums are smart enough and would get that this is not a V3 release thread. It doesn't say developer in my handle and I'm not a beta tester with benefits, ergo posting positively biased opinions.
This is preemptive tactic to give otoy an idea that not all want a rental scheme for octane.

Btw anyone who does compositing. FUSION 7 is now free!
I have to compliment blackmagicdesign. They're one of the few generous companies out there, including Pixologic.
