So I can't get my IES lights to work properly for some reason... I posted in the modo specific forum, but was told it might be best if I post here.

So in the first image, on the left is modo preview browser. I created a photometric (IES) light, and it works fine in modo, on the right side of the first image, is that same exact IES file attached to a half sphere with a spherical projection. You can see it is acting weird. Like the IES is projecting from every surface over and over, I am not 100 percent sure if that is by design or what but would be cool if I knew.

I have also tried projecting IES from a plane and still not getting it to look like the modo one.

I am just wondering how to get an IES light to look like the modo (correct) one. Is it applied to a sphere? Half sphere? Plane?

Thanks a lot.

Use a single plane. Preferably small.
Does that help?

Sorry I forgot to include the image before.

But I guess I got it working pretty close, it is just a little softer now. It definitely helped when I made the plane smaller. I do wish it would produce the harder edges like in the modo render.

But doesn't it cause more noise using smaller light sources? I have a kitchen where I have like 20 of these can lights. Will it be possible render clean?

Thanks
