We do a lot of automotive renderings and vfx on real-car-footage.
In this case we need the real environment as reflection on the
car surface.
Octane4Maya does not support 2 Sky-Domes and one backplate
(like you would normal do)
1 Skydome for the reflection (slightly blurry)
1 Skydome for the lightning (sharp and true HDR-depth)
1 backplate for fast previews in the maya render-view
So we did some planes mapped with the real footage of the
forrest to the emission-slot of a diffuse material. But we
can't switch the shadow casting off!
We tried every constallation, every button etc.
Please implement a true camera-background -> backplate
and the function to switch off shadow-casting.
OCTANE and OCTANE MAYA = NICE JOB!
Cheers
Jerry
P.S.: anyone got a workaround on this?
Please implement CAST SHADOW ON/OFF in the next release!

I second this! This is on my list along with a use background shader if it's possible. Until these features it's really hard to use Octane for VFX where you need to composite into live action footage (which is all the time if you're doing VFX).
Hi dnsfactory,
I'm a Blender user, but in this case it doesn't matter as we have almost the same settings.
If I understand you rightly, you need to cover a plane from a camera view but save a reflection from this plane. If so, you already can do this. Look at an example image - the cube is invisible to the camera but its reflection is still visible. Did you change a mesh type from Global to Scatter? This is all you need to do to turn on the Shadow/Camera visibility option.

Yeah, try to change the Geometry Type.
