Hi,

I want to create a negative displacement to make a "hole", not a "extrusion"

So when i turn on the displace channel, i go to "texture" > "c4doctane" > "Displacement"

After that, i go to "texture" > "c4doctane" > "image texture" and i import my image texture. I'm using a greyscale image but i can't invert this image if i want hole intead of extrusion.

Thanks ;)

you could use a color correction node between the texture and the displacement. This way you can invert the texture image.

Hi Ron. You are right, it could be very usefull but it doesn't work like that. Displacement accept only bitmap files and nothing else (or C4D shaders because they are converted to bitmap on the fly). Then, as i know, color correction nodes or invert checkbox in imagetexture node of the displacement doesn't work with displacement.

Then guigui, i think the only solution is to invert your texture in another software (like Photoshop, The Gimp, ...).

Just use layer and substract ! and set shift with same value in displacement ...

@LudovicRouy: As far as i know, EC4D - Fractal is a procedural shader from Biomekk. It's not a bitmap file.
Procedural shaders are converted on the fly into bitmaps by the Octane plugin with the function into Settings (Settings tab > C4D shaders (2D)), that's why your solution is working. If you try the same solution by replacing the EC4D - Fractal with an external bitmap file (like a .tif or .jpg), it will not work.

Great idea! ;)
I had never tested to add an Octane ImageTexture node inside a C4D layer. It works really fine. Thanks for the tips!

Really happy to help ;)

Didn't know this tip myself until I tried it yesterday because I never have to invert map
