why concern?
Octane is capable of doing skin very well, obviously it takes some experience and effort, but it can be done. Not having topnotch shaders on the liveDB isnt concerning to me at all. The liveDB is free shaders that people are kind enough to share. With most other software, you either create the shader yourself, or buy it off someone else. Dont see why it would be different with octane

Octane is the tool, using it is our job surely. You wouldn't go and by a complex multi tool for woodworking, and complain that it didn't include completed furniture with it, would you?

Our OctaneRender skin shaders have been on the market now for almost a year and have seen steady sales and satisfied customers.
We're specifically not marketing them a "One-click-solutions" but it comes ver close.
Also check our deviantart group where we have a lot of images posted using our skin shaders:

The simple reason why. Lightwave users are probably getting better SSS than poser is quite simple really. My views
Everybody is using the same textures the same runtimes. And some of the textures are quite badly made, if you get them from
a bad vendor. (You renders will only be as good as those artists)
Lightwave users usually make their own custom textures from HD models , photographs. And very rarely that
you see a runtime texture that is very high quality.
I have started introducing my own textures into the runtimes skin. Eyes , hair,
I'm far from getting 100% realistic effects.
But I think I'm getting better results than most who use the same runtimes.
There will never be a quick and one stop option for doing skin.
There is quite a lot of skin sharers in the database about 6 to be exact
but it's down to you to customize them to your model and change the values to suit your own needs
But that's my personal opinion on it, I think octane still needs a little bit of work
on its SSS as a skin shader. But that's just again my personal opinion
Again, hair is always an issue with poser. And that's my another bugbear with life
