octane 2 NOT working - need to revert to 1

Hello,

this version Octane 2 is not working on my laptop. { with nvidia 675 M } Octane render screen is Black. It's says to reset video card, but IM not sure how to do this. { I set cuda devices > pressed reset : but did nothing}

I also initially had to upgrade the laptop driver to 344 ---- also but doesnt seem to have helped at all}.

I need to revert back to version 1 apparently -- asap.

PS yes it is activated.

Which version of the plugin are you trying (ie. what release number pls)? What does the Cuda Log say? Does Octane Standalone 2.0 or 2.1 work?

You can revert to 1.5 by installing the plugin from http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=39333. Your card appears to have a compute capability of 2.1 (you can check in the Devices tab of the plugin) - which should run fine of Octane 2.0.

Hi,

Which version of the plugin are you trying (ie. what release number pls)?

................Number at very top? > 2.6.0.23

What does the Cuda Log say?

.................not much:

Started logging on 07.10.14 15:53:51

OctaneRender version 2.06 (2060000)

Does Octane Standalone 2.0 or 2.1 work?

> standalone says version 2.06. but- Ive never used standalone, so not sure how to test it.

You can revert to 1.5 by installing the plugin from http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=39333.

.............okay, thank you downloading now. { I think I was using 1.20? }

......says I need this driver

This release requires Nvidia drivers 335.23 or later.

I have 344.11 installed now. BUT Not sure if I have to revert to my older driver or not, though.
{ if that new driver is the problem? }

You card appears to have a compute capability of 2.1

???

(you can check in the Devices tab of the plugin) - which should run fine of Octane 2.0.

.........dont see what check you are referring to.

Paul

thank you Paul..

Thanks for the detailed info.

You shouldn't need to revert - 344.11 should be fine.
(you can check in the Devices tab of the plugin) - which should run fine of Octane 2.0.

It's in the plugin Cuda Devices tab. http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=29.

If you have an Octane 2.0 license, then you can install 1.20, 1.50, 1.55, 2.06 or 2.10 versions of the plugin. I suggest you try all these to determine if at some point Octane stopped recognising your card. You don't need to install different versions of Octane Standalone or Cuda/Nvidia drivers when trying these.

EDIT:
Octane render screen is Black
This could be because you are updating from such an old version - the scene you have loaded ha no lights (or other similar issue). Is the Samples counter increasing in the Viewport statistics panel?

In addition to the above....if you are upgrading from 1.20 (which is very old), close Poser and delete your default rendertarget settings (delete C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Poser Pro\10\defaultrendertarget.por) and recreate them again in the plugin. This will ensure the new daylight structure is saved in your default rendertarget.

My pleasure.

Yes. 1.50 Installed now. Seems to be working !!

(you can check in the Devices tab of the plugin) - which should run fine of Octane 2.0.

I now note: in the Cuda devices tab, that ACTIVE BOX was auto checked in V1.5 , when I opened the panel. This and the use priority box were NOT checked previously. { in 2.x version} and ONLY use priority box could be checked. FYI.

Ok. But I may wait a bit ? -- too much excitement for one day - lol.

Oh good.

= = = =

again:

1.50 Installed now. Seems to be working !!

thanks again for fast, and excellent support, Paul.

OK - I believe the problem is that when first starting the Poser plugin for Octane 2.06, Octane has DISABLED (ie. unticked) the Active box for your video card. If you install the latest plugin version (go with 2.10 at http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=42585) and then tick the Active box next to your card in the Cuda Devices tab, does rendering then work?

) and then tick the Active box

this box could NOT be checked in the version I was using. { it was not greyed, out -- looked like
the other button hole -- but could not be checked}
