I hardly have scenes bigger then. 3gb, but I want to be able and render bigger scenes.

with two 780Ti 's from another machine?
Is that just unplug , swap, and plug them to the same cables?

I'm running 2 x GTX 590's and 2 x GTX 780 ti's which for me is fine as most of my work fits into the 1.5GB VRAM of the GTX 590's. Paid 120 GBP each for the 590's which is a massive bargain considering the performance. Was running 2 x GTX 580's with the GTX 590's, but sold them on and replaced them with 780 ti's which gamers are getting rid of to upgrade to the 980. Titans strike me as expensive for what they offer Octane users.

If your really need the RAM, okay. If you dont really need it, you might have heard, that the 700 series just has been phased out by Nvidia and Maxwell is now the new thing. So if you have the luxury to wait and see what the fuzz is all about with the new cards once the drivers for Octane are there, i would probably give that a go before you shell out to much for the Titan Z. The new GTX 970 4GB is about as fast as a Titan, but costs only 300 bucks. Plus they have really good cooling and alot of room to overclock.

So the less cores of the 970 (1660) will be much more efficient then the titan cores (2880)?
If so... By then buying 4x 970 and replace 4x 580 will be a good option!

Yeah, i think it is definitly something to consider, but as i said it looks like we still need to wait for Octane to make use of the new drivers and some of the prices for the "old" cards to settle until we can really know what is the best for any given need. Say if you find a good deal on GTX 780 with 6GB Ram with a price that is close to a GTX 970 and your main job is rendering, then i would not hesitate.

Yup, if your power supply/supplies handle GTX 580's then it will handle a similar number of GTX 780s / Titans / Titan Blacks. No issues. The Fermi architecture was power hungry and hot, so the same applies to cooling, if your case handles GTX 580's in number, then the same should apply to the other cards (I'm not taking into account overclocking here, that would add another wrinkle, I'm talking stock clocks). Of course if you go the 900 series route your power requirements will reduce as the cards are less hungry - 165W for the GTX 980.

In terms of 900 performance, or lack thereof, what does not add up for me is that the first Maxwell card, the GTX 750ti, was a great performer considering it's price and position in the scheme of things. It did not need any rewrites of the Octane code to perform well.

Godstrike, on paper & for games only..for CUDA aps this cards draws almost the same as 780s =)

as for 750..it wasn't working at all, before Guys haven't done some tweaks on code, & this new card has some things inside that differ from 750..so, I guess we need to wait =) new release is coming soon, maybe support (revised performance issues) for new cards will be there =)

Yep, atleast on 2.0 demo 750ti (even plugged in thru expresscard) performed half of a single gtx 580 (about 2.1ms)

amazing to say, performance/watt with this card is very good, right?
