Hi all,

Thanks to Octane Render my rendering skill has improve dramatically but somehow it is still lacking realism. I see some of the work done I was like 'wow' it looks like photograph'.

I've tried with all that I've learned from youtube tutorial and adjusting the material glossiness and roughness, uses hdri, adding bump to material, it looks nice but you can tell it's computer rendered not photo-realistic. I dunno what else I can do. If any of you great octane renderers out there could help me out?

I think it looks ok but yes, would need some improvements. Here are a list of things to try.

1. Make Lamp shade one side surface (no thickness) if this is not the case and apply a specular material. Set index to 1.3, reflection to a low value like 0.3 and roughness to 1. Also turn on fake shadows.

2. Use edge rounding on surfaces like the wood frames and table/cabinets to smooth the corners.

3. Reflections look a bit strong. Particularly pictures and wood/floor surface.

4. Maybe try a different fabric texture separate on the sofa and cushions and add some extra details.

5. A bump texture of the wood surfaces.

6. Try with different lighting as well. Maybe get rid of the sun and have skydome or hdri instead.

7. Study references for some inspiration.

Hope this is useful.
