I see a whole bunch of functionality in this that maybe makes me think I'd use only Zbrush from now on instead of Zbrush for organic and e.g. maya for hard surface models...

Well if you have a plugin (like the one for Lightwave) you have GoOctane already :)

Yes 4R7 looks good. I'm most interested to see what 64bit brings

Yeah, the new modeling tools look nice, but to be honest I was hoping in something more, like an improved zRemesher, a folder system for the subtools, and a pixel-based painting system... I hope these will come with zBrush 5.
At least this version is gonna be 64bit.

I'm stoked about how you get each upgrade for free. As in zero dollars.

I'm speculating that v5 won't be free as in free beer so it will be interesting to see what the upgrade price will be.

That said, whatever the price is, I'm definitely getting it.

I've seen that speculation elsewhere, but I don't know where it is coming from. Someone was saying that 'obviously' this means 5 wont be free.

Don't get it.

I'm with you. I have a modelling programme :) I wanted better Zremesher. More stable Dynamesh (R6 screwed it up IMO). Far easier manual retopology tools. They may have done some of this, but only be showing what they think people will be excited by. But as you say, who knows what difference 64 bit will make. A lot of the stuff might get better and improve further with 5.

All of those would be brilliant, but the folder system for subtools I have dreamt about since the beta 10+ years ago... :D

Would also like a mirror weld which keeps Sub-D levels, as well as a load of other tweaks but dont want to be greedy

The $100 ( I think ) I paid for ZB WAAAAAAY back when, has probably been the best software investment I ever made...so will pay whatever they ask for ZB5

they started using a lot of CAD software like techniques, like this reminds me of sketchup, and spaceclaim, auotmatic pul push action, beveling connecting etc.. I sort of expected this with some future versions - zbrush is probably the most cost effective software, with a fair price, and always going over the top with no compromise features - some things are quirky and non standard, but you gotta love how easily you can create most complex stuff..
- I really enjoy when I get into organic modelling, and get actual results
