thanks..
- and yes, I'm doing the black on black, tend to get dark, but looked just black enough if I up the exposure doesn't look as good
- the material is pure 0 black but with glossy and roughness and bumps.. it probably depends on the brightness of different monitors now, on 2 of mine looks ok, now I'm not sure how it looks on others

Hi,

also here, it is to much dark. Try to calibrate your monitor.
Anyway, cause there is no 100% black or white (color) in nature, you shouldn't use pure 0 black, try 3% or 5%.

.. thanks, then, I'll check, I usually check against a mobile phone or ipad, like an average monitoring device
- yes I know that pure black is usually a no go, but this one had more glossy stuff, usually it seems fine with specular
and roughness, pure black means absolutely no light bouncing usually..

Would love to learn that dirt technique. Dirt map in Roughness-channel? With some Mix textures? How?

hi, check out some downloadable files at this post everything uses similar technique..
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=40811

like, add two shaders in a mix shader, and control via dirt texture, set to inverse for edge scratches, one main material , other glossy with more bump .. and play with settings.. the shaders in the above link will get you started..

you got it :)

- now think how to add irregularities in those scratched edges - think of the other texture that having irregular glossy diffuse texture or ireggular specular texture ..

Well - HOW do I make theese irregularities on the edges? See my attached example of some kind of painted wood with weathered edges. The edges are to "straight". How do I fix this? I'm trying to do it as in the tutorials but i'm missing something. Want to achieve something like a map in Vrays Dirt channel.
