"Exposure" units?

I understand that "Exposure" is in units where higher means longer, but does anyone know specifically how long say, a value of "1" is? It's not seconds, as far as I can tell.
Core i7-3770 / 16GB RAM / 2x GTX 780 6GB / Windows 7
