Hi all,

I'm having a few issues with a 32 bit displacement file from mudbox.

I'm not getting the amount of detail in render, as displayed in Mudbox.

If I output a normal map and put this in the normal map slot, the amount of detail is correct.

I'm using 8K 32 bit textures and 8K in Octane displacement.
I've tried low to high depth and offset settings.

cheers,

Steve

Do you get the same result described in both Maya plugin and in Standalone?

Nope. In Standalone, the displacement works a little better.

The 32 bit displacement map doesn't seem to work, but using the normal map as a displacement (from mudbox) seems to work, albeit the shader looks to have more refraction (on both displacement versions).

The displacement setting is at a value of 6.

edit: I'm getting some displacement in maya, if I apply the displacement in the mix material slot (again, using the normal map).

Hi Jim,

I think one of the issues might be that the 32 bit exr is being read in as 8bit.

The attached files show the map and the displacement (this time at 0.6):

The second attachment shows what's actually in the exr file, but which doesn't show up in photoshops 'preview' of the file. This makes me think that the displacement is picking the file up as 8bit (or at least what's 'viewed' in photoshop):

The darker parts of the previous images might be because the level was put up to 6.

cheers,

Sorry, but I can't get your situation using definition "works a little better".

So, in the same scene with the same settings and with the same exr: do you get standalone rendering the same displacement absolutely normal?
As it would be strange - Maya plugin just supplies the Octane API by filenames of the textures, it does not convert any texture files before supplying them to Octane.

Sorry, ignore the 'works a little better.'

The issue seems to be that the displacement is not picking up the depth of the 32 bit file.
