Hi,

There are icons on the render settings panel like kernel, environment, image etc. Each Category has icons in their children elements next to them.

There is an option to turn them icons off - and that speed things up - because when the icons are on, they get refreshed/reloaded each time any parameter is changed (and there is quite a bunch of that icons), for example when you use a slider. Add gpu rendering in the background and you have some slowdown.

So turning them icons off speeds overall feel significantly.

But, there are also icons in the material settings. And they refresh/reload also, on parameter edit. And they can't be turned off (no such a setting).

So, wouldn't it be nice if there was such a setting (to turn icons also in the material window)? Better, it would be the best if the icons didn't refresh/reload on parameter change. And they help to recognize particular setting, but I have to turn them off.

Regards,
Mac

Hi Mac

I will look at having the Material panel remove the icons if you disabled them in the settings.

I am also looking at ways to stop the tree view from refreshing like it does (that the default behavior of that control, but there are some tricky ways to change it).

If you use separate graphics card as your Windows display adapter, the UI tree flashing will disappear. (I get zero flicker on my system).

EDIT: Removing the icons from the Material panel from the Configuration screen is potentially not easily doable (since the Material panel is a Rhino panel, not an Octane plugin panel). However I found a great fix for the tree view flicker which will be in the next release.

Yeh, two graphics cards are the way to go, if you can do it. I have one system with a single card, and another with two cards - the dual card system is a dream to do editing on compared to the single. Just get a small, low power card and use it just for your display, and use your higher powered card for the rendering only.

Hi guys,

Well, I use both gpus to render - obviously if I disable one gpu I get 50% slower rendering.
I could do that on light projects, but on light projects the refreshing icons are not so significant in overall feel.

On the other hand, on heavy projects, I need two gpus, and then refreshing icons slow things a bit.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the new plugin release :D

Rendering directly in Rhino (which I use extensively) is a fantastic experience :)
