hi, jimstar,
Did you plan to release a 1.55 plugin version for blender 2.71 before a 2.xx ??
Thx,
Regards.

Yes indeed.
I'm working on it. The stable 1.55 branch will be moved to last Blender release, and last issues will be fixed to leave it in stable state.
Even after 2.0 will be released, I will still be fixing the 1.55 bug reports if they will appear. The same as I did with Maya plugin - Maya's 1.55 branch is left in stable state now, just almost nobody uses it..
But be patient please, as Blender plugin takes a lot more effort than other plugins to change something in it. In fact - it is two different software (Blender-client and Octane-server) developed separately for both Windows and Linux each (and later for Mac), and bound into "one entity" by their own network protocol (which is the third entity which should be developed or refactored every time something changes).
And every change in Blender part itself - is extremely difficult too: as with every new Blender version I must reverse-engineer "what was changed in code, how it works, and have these changes broken something in Octane internal functionality or not"... In fact I need not only code the Octane part inside Blender, I often fix Blender's own bugs or defects which do not let to Octane work normally inside Blender...
So, just be patient. I've already switched from my other tasks, and I'm working...

Will the 1.55 version be updated for 2.72 and later?
As for 2.0 are you working on the 2.72 branch?
Is there any way to get stuff like texture painting working directly with octane. I know that even cycles doesn't work with this yet just BI.
You said you are sometimes fixing blender bugs. Are those submitted to the main branch? Have you thought of developing some new API's for main branch that will allow octane to work without a custom blender version(like just install from a zip like a normal addon). Or is this something currently already done or not even posiible at all?
There are some people complaining about the lack of a mac version for a long time. How delayed is that compared to linux or win versions? I am a win guy so just curious.

Ok, thanks for the informations. You're right we are too impatient, this is because we users are too excited by octane render and you achieve great job !!! I was wondering if you will wait an opensubdiv blender version ( if i'm right it is plan for blender 2.73 or higher ) or if you will developp your own for 2.xx verions ? And what about hair rendering, will there be strands rendering, geometry rendering or the two of them ? Will there be blender hair material support and dynamics support ??JimStar wrote:Yes indeed.
