today I bought a new stand alone license so that I can use a secondary pc to help render over the network.... to be fair I am not a network savvy kind of guy but I've followed everything, (at least I think I have),that is in the stand alone manual and I am no further along..... I honestly don't know how or why it's not working but I know it's got to be real simple. I think maybe my "master" system isn't set up? I don't know if that is something I have to do but honestly I just don't know what I'm doing. Any pointers in the right direction would be awesome.....when I click on the octaneslave.exe I get this from the command line "no valid master address specified on the command line"

so I've obviously missed something......

Are you on windows?
Run the "_install_daemon.bat" file and hit enter a few times to accept the default settings.
The run "_run_installed_daemon.bat" it should run a command line prompt which is the slave daemon (it looks after listening for masters and starting slaves). It might ask for access to the network, which you should obviously agree too.

Once this is going, then go back to the master machine and enable network rendering and it should just appear in the list for you to tick.

Thanks
Chris.

Hey Chris thanks for getting back to me and it does seem to work, (to a point). Here's the update. So if I have the octane standalone renderer open it will see the slave in the network and allow me to activate it...This is true also for the Octane maya plugin. However my lightwave plugin does not see the slave in the network.....

Check a couple of things:
1) That the version of the slave and LW plugin match exactly. Check with Juanjgon, but i think the 2.0.10 plugin version is built off 2.00 so it will need the older standalone slave. The daily build might be built on 2.04, i'm not sure.
2) If you are sure you have the right slave version for the plugin, try just restarting the slave after you make sure it's not in use by any other master.
