My new machine just arrived and I see that instead of the GTX 750Ti that it was specified to come with, it has a GTX 660.
Do you think it is worth asking the sellers to switch it to what it was supposed to have (the 750Ti)?

I see that the 660 has more CUDA cores than the 750Ti (960 vs. 640), but the 750Ti is new generation Maxwell card with lower power requirements (will that save me much money in electricity usage over time?) and also has greater display resolution capability (4096x2160 vs. 2560x1600).
How do I tell how much RAM is on the installed card (GeForce Experience and the Control Panel don't tell me and I don't yet have 3DS Max and Octane installed.)

I have a GTX 780 6GB that I will be adding into the machine (swapping the stock power supply out with a 1300 Watt unit), and will run the video monitor off the installed card.
At some point I would like to get another larger screen (27" or 30"), so the higher resolution 750Ti appeals.
The PC has four PCIE x16 bays so I will be able to add two more cards down the road.

I just don't know if the extra 10% CUDA cores that I will have with the 660 is worth giving up other benefits of the 750Ti.

2304 cores in the GTX780 plus 960 cores in the GTX660 = 3264
Vs.
2304 cores in the GTX750Ti plus 640 cores in the GTX660 = 2944

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you.

I will not suggest 660 or 750Ti. I have 660 but never used 750Ti.

But what I can suggest, whichever card you'll choose, use 780 6GB for your monitor display. It will give better performance while working on the scene in 3D software.
And if you start proper rendering wihout priority setups - it will still perform at it's best.

Thank you for the tip slepy8! I'll do that. On the subject of display performance, will I see much improvement if I ditch the analog video cable (connected to an DVI adaptor) and go with a DVI cable? If so, what kind of cable should I get? My primary monitor has what looks like a dual-link DVI port, which I haven't used. The GTX 780 card has DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-I and DVI-D. My second monitor, which I may have to replace or repair at some point (warm-up problems) has HDMI in addition to analog. The guy at BestBuy wasn't able to explain what kind of cable I should get and So far I have only used analog, so I'm not familiar with the differences or cable variations.

Anyone else care to weigh in on the GTX 660 vs. GTX 750Ti issue?

Hi buggy, the GTX 750Ti is the new Maxwell core and perform very well on Cuda.
Here is a benchmark with Blender Cycles, also a Cuda render engine:

Next cards come in October, may you wait for the prize of 870, 860 before you buy.

Cheers, mib

I'd suggest you to use 750Ti for display and 780 for rendering if possible

Thank you all. I'm going to ask the vendor to send me the 750Ti and return the 660.
I'll have to experiment to see which way works best for rendering and display performance to connect the monitor.
