Hi
I have a problem since yesterday.
Whenever I try to render my latest Octane scene, the monitor went suddenly black and the graphic cards cooling goes loud.
Dunno yet if it is a problem with the octane scene or if some hardware is broken, but it worked all weekend and I added more linkings to that octane file, more alembic files (camera, meshes) and texture nodes.
It couldn't happened any time worse... 2days before project deadline
If anyone encountered similar problems, please let me know what the reason for it is/was and how to fix it.
Thanks
P.S.
Rendering in Standalone Version 2.00
edit:
When I render an older file, there seems to be noc problem
(37 Textures, 6.505.013 Triangles, 455 Meshes 2GPU 1137.3/2787/3072)
The animation with problems was also tried to render with v 2.02 and it seems 1 GPU fails after 2-3 frames
(40 Textures, 10.710.791 Triangles, 695 Meshes 2GPU 1755.4/2787/3072)
PC crashes when rendering with Octane

Hi ArminBeier,
The problem was fixed, I had the same problem. Download the version 2.03

So it was a software problem?AleksBraz wrote:Hi ArminBeier,

I am really nervous right not! Don't know if some hardware is broke, or overheated or something like that.
I am deleting not directly visible objects from my scene to reduce the triangle count. Since one gpu failed, it might have been loading issues.

Monitor went black while rendering again!
Cooling of my upper graphic card went loud again and I couldn't reset my pc.
I had to remove the card and PC was running a system recovery....
What's that error that now destroyed me a not-a-year-old 780 GHL and maybe my mainboard?
Everything else worked fine. This error was only happening while I used Octane.
Games etc were okay. But now I card won't run normal again.

I had a similar problem last week.
I was running Titan and 680 with a 850 W Corsair psu.
Screen went black while renderin on both.
Then computer didnt open again. I sometimes opened and boot but mostly didn't turn on.
So I went and bought a 1500 W supply. now it's working perfectly. The cards aren't ruined or fried.
Make sure you connect aditional PCI-e power to the mainboard ( I guess it's called Ez-plug in Asus mobos).
if your mobo doest support that. Your board may not be able to handle gpu's correctly.
Check your gpu heat at all times. Use application named Afterburner from MSI. U can adjust that app. to driver more fan speed at higher heat.
Make sure your cpu also doest heat alot, if you dont have a well ventilated pc case. best way to keep pc cool is to let the hot air out of the case quickly and get cool air from front grills.
But generally it should be heat and power problem you're having there.

I am running octane since nearly one year (until this month only with Poser and Rhino Plugin, not standalone).
I have a 1050 W Powersupply 80Plus Gold for two GTX780 GLH. This should be more then enough.
I ordered that PC and said that it is for GPU rendering mainly and the service configurated that rig for me. So I think that power should have been considered.
Heat was near 80° for both cards, as usually with Octane. CPU was about 68°.
I let the card cool down a bit and plugged it in again, but as soon as I powered the pc, the card went loud again and the screen stayed black.
The card and the pc will go to a service next week, but this couldn't happen any time worse...
Final presentation on wednesday and can't finish the last animations since 2 days.
I am totally angry and desperate.

if your mobo is still Z87 as in your signature. I guess your mainboard doesn't have additional power PCI opportunity.
In my case I had these troubles because I didn't connect that 6 pin power pplug in mobo with my old psu.
After I bought ax1500i psu I connected that that that solved abnormal pc problems.
What I'm saying is your cards may not be malfunctioned.
I'm saying that because my pc was working great since then. But last week out of no reason it started to shutdown itself. and didn turn on.
I was using the same cards same setup.
Changing the psu and connectig that extra power to mobo worked great.
By the way did you tested the system with one gpu? I bet you did.
What happens then?
Also did you try to use that gpu in other PCI slot?
hope u solve that problem quickly

Second:
I still have the Z87, but I must confess I don't know about the parts and the connections exactly, but I will discuss that problem with the service.
When the monitor went black, the sytem was still running, it seems that only the first card wasn't sending any signal anymore, but powered up the fans. They were running on full speed.
I run my system now on my second card, while the first is removed, but I didn't tested much around yet, since I can't efford shutting my pc down right now, to fix some hardware problems.
It has to run like this for at least this week until my deadlines are through.
But your comments about the power supply will be a topic with the shop service, where I bought the pc.
A thing about my cooling. The GTX780 GLH are from Gainward, the phantom series, they have 3 air cooling fans, and are made for the high usage. So I don't use watercooling. But like I said the cards were at 80° and normally they are scaling down when they are too hot.

first u can run the cards at 80 degree with no problem. But if the render lasts longer. I mean hours. it could damage itself.
I can render my titan at %100 while keeping them 65degrees by adjusting the fan speed with the afterburner app. The fans speed up when it reaches a temperature.
Also the problem with the first pci slot can be due to the card or mainboard. or again insufficient power. You psu might be good but mobo hasto stabilly give that power to the cards.
It's important to know that those gpu's with 3 fans on it are designed for systems with 1 gpu only. and they perform well besides they have 1 major problem.
What it does it pushes any air the case to the heatsink of gpu therefore decreases the gpu temp.
But. it also creates hell amount of heat dissipates in the case. Also creates very high turbulance so heated air inside the case is everywhere. and front and back case fans may not be able to suck that heated air out of the case... That also explains your high CPU temps.
So if you have 2 of these cards, I bet your pc case is very hot inside.
To solve that issue you have to find the way to send the heat out side the case.
Like I said I have 1 titan and 680 they all use stock air cooling.
Titan's air management is better it sucks the air from back of the card (inside case) and pushes it out from the the back of case. the 680 is similar.
The stock fans are designed to stack them up whilst being able to distribute air to all cards.
Until you solve your issue with the mobo's 1st pci slot. You can try to manage pushing out the hot air inside the case to outside...
when you have the time... Change the problematic gpu card with the card that is working properly slot. Leaving the 1.st slot empty. See if the prolematic card works well on the other slot.
Then you can then see either the card or the mobo is problematic..
There are times where PCI slot teeths gets dust.. that creates problems. also see if the teeths are are bend.

It is definitly one card damaged.
I tested both slots with both cards. One allways worked, the other one didn't.
And like the first time one card went broken, Gainaward will let me wait for at least 2 months for a respond...
But I am bringing that pc to the service and we will look how to prevent errors like that in the future.
It really can't be that I buy a pc explicit for gpu rendering and it burns out after 9 months.
Thanks for the help though
