When 2.0 will be available for Maya?
Moderator: JimStar
Hi all,
Firstly, let me just say that this is not intended as having a pop, or written as being a negative post, and I would like to say a big thanks for all the work on the maya plugin to date…but here goes:
It's nearly 1 month since the release on Octane 2.
The majority of 3d apps in the Plugin section support version 2, some with daily updates.
I've been learning the standalone version (exporting .obj and .abc files from maya), which is great, but I would really like to have the render engine inside the 3d app.
Realistically, is there a release date for the Maya plugin?
If this is way off, which 3d app is best supported?
At the mo, it looks like C4D, Max and Lightwave have great, frequently updated versions from the developers.
cheers,
Steve

Agreed! Actually, Maya is the only non-beta plugin that hasn't been updated to 2.x yet. I need to upgrade from the educational version at some point and I'd rather work in Maya than Max, but I can't justify the expense if it's going to lag behind! Maybe JimStar is working on some super-secret awesome features for the next version.prodviz wrote:Hi all,

Can we get a vague timeline...days, weeks?

blender 3d is behind too, I was browsing here cause I know that first maya will come out and only then blender will follow, but I wait and send my positive vibes to the team

The blender plugin and the maya plugin are both done by JimStar. There's probably a good reason develpoment is a bit slow compared to the others.
That being said... It sure is annoying to be the last to receive the update.

Good point. I'm sure there is a load of work supporting two or more 3d apps on your own.
I think others have mentioned this before, but it's time for a dedicated Maya developer, with daily updates etc.
And someone who can stay on the Maya development and provide bug fixes etc. and maybe even tutorials.
That being said, I'm close-ish to jumping over to Cinema or Max. Not sure yet

Well, face_off does the plugins for 7 programs (Modo, Rhino, Revit, Inventor, Poser, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD), and those are already v2.0 or later, in some cases since the day standalone v2.0 was released. I imagine Maya is tougher, but yeah, that would seem to be more of an argument for a dedicated developer.
I am leaning towards the Max plugin at the moment, too, although I'd prefer Maya.
