Hi dear octane forum members,
i may have a simple question for advanced users. I made a simple spere and created a checker map in octane´s modo plugin, but how can i control the strength of the bump (see attached image).
I expected something like a value for power or strength in the bump channel or maybe a high and low-value slider in the checker texture node.
Am i missing something? Hopefully someone can help me to find the right direction.
Kind regards
philipp

You are right - the checks nodes does not seem to be working for a bump pin input. I will escalate this to Otoy.i may have a simple question for advanced users. I'm not quite so sure this is a bug so much as a limitation of bump maps.
I think the problem will be the fact that the transition distance between black and white is very small. Therefore the bump line between the checks is also very small.
If you scale the checks down enough and get close enough, you will find it is doing it, but the transition is so instant from black to white that it's a very small lip/bump.
(The attached image is a test in the standalone of the side of a 1m x 1m x 1m cube, with checks texture at 0.002 scale, 0.050 aperture, focal distance of about 0.045. So this is very close and very small)
Scaling up the checks texture will just make the size of the flat areas bigger, but not the line/transition between the two. So you will get giant squares with tiny transitions between them.
Thanks
Chris.
