Hi all,

I export an .obj, abc or save as an Octane file, from maya.

I then make some shader tweaks in Octane Standalone, tweak some features only available in v2 etc.

Then I go back to make some alterations to the maya file, like retiming one of the animated parts etc.

How do I then push these maya amends over to the Standalone scene, while retaining all of the tweaks previously made in Standalone?

Hope that makes sense,

cheers,

Steve

If you make changes to just the obj or abc then you should be able to reload them using these buttons in the standalone: http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Standalo ... age_id=476

So long as you keep all the same material names etc, then hopefully all your materials will stay connected to the right pins of the obj or abc node and just the geometry/camera path etc will be updated and none of your material changes will be overwritten.

The best way is to make sure your materials are a separate node that is connected to the obj/abc node.
If not and you just change the internal nodes of the obj/abc then you might find your changes wiped on the reload (depending on if material names change).

Cheers FooZe.

If the Octane scene is a package, are the abc or obj files stored in the Orbx file?
I guess that means I'd replace rather that reload.

cheers.

Yes, the abc and obj files (and everything else for that matter) will be inside the orbx package.
To get at the bits and pieces you will need to go to File->Unpack Package in the standalone.
