Hey,
I am was wondering if it is possible to use C4Ds net render on a host machine and use octane to render? What I am looking for is a render que like net render that is hosted on it own machine which you can just drop files onto and hit start. I do not want to use the render que from c4d since I do not have a standalone c4d license for my server and just have net render on it. Let me know if there are any options that I can try to make this work!

Thanks,
Marc

I dont think I made my self very clear or understand the response. I have 3 standalone version of octane as well 3 plugins for cinema 4d. I have a Cubix GPU expander that is connected to a server node with both standalone of octane and c4d plugin. I am basically wanting to use C4Ds net render server with the net render client to render. I beleive its pretty much the same think I just dont know if it works with the interface of if I am doing something wrong?

Thanks!

well, sorry my bad.

if you have 2.0 standalone, you can do distributed rendering. Also you should also, it's awesome. Anyway you don'T need plugin licences for clients.

2.0 has a octane_slave.exe. This for clients. run this command as administrator like this:

Code: Select all

octane_slave.exe --net-master-address 192.168.1.2 --net-master-port 21000
there, 192.168.1.2 is IP for master computer which runs the cinema 4d. Change it to your master pc's IP.
And enable Live Viewer->network rendering. That's all. No need to copy textures or else.
It should run

Will this work with Macs? I see the dreaded ".exe" and I'm guessing that this is not ready for us yet.

It is still not clear to me - do i need to have 3 stand alone licenses to run 3 slaves - or are they contained in one stand alone license

Yes, currently you need a license for each nodes. We hope some update for better rendernode licensing policy from Otoy.

The overheadis much worse than expected.
With a 1Gb/s network, so ~100MB/s bandwith, octane only uses about 3MB/s in each direction.
Is this a setting somewhere we missed?
