Hello all, I've been working on trying to get Octane to render hair from the C4D Hair module while keeping the settings from the Hair material (Color, Length, Kink, Clump, etc...).
The only way I've been able to render it is by making the hair actual geometry using the Sweep mode in the Hair settings. While this works fine in the case that I didn't need styling, but the styling I have in the materials is what I'm looking for with the benefit of Octane rendering.

I saw there's a demo scene of hair available but that's only available for licensed customers - could someone point me in the right direction?

i suppose that you are trying 1.5x demo, is it? Hair rendering is a part of Octane Render 2.0. The samples, that's available for version 2.0. So it does not work with sweeps, support hair geometry in render engine.

Hello Aoktar, thanks for getting back to me.
I checked and yes you're correct, it's the 1.5 Demo - my bad for not checking to make sure it was 2.0 before posting.

I re-checked otoy.com and the latest demo available is still 1.5 (unless I'm looking in the wrong places).
I guess I'm still a little confused with the Hair support: obviously it won't work on anything previous to v2.0, but are you saying that with the C4D plugin for 2.0 does indeed support the settings from the Hair material?

Demo for 2.0 is nearly ready. Some documentation is missing. I'll publish it today or next. Yes, 2.0 has hair support. Integration is little tricky and not %100 compatible with hair material, but mostly works with hair effects.

Very cool tests, I think for my purposes this is promsing and will work very well.

Will check periodically to see if/when the demo becomes available.

Thanks!

these are exposed in forum in development period, but it's not visible to public.

This is another complex test with a preset scene of R15.
