Hi everyone,

I haven't posted anything in a looooong time, sorry guys.
But I'm glad to be back, especially now that I've upgraded to v2 !!! :)
Octane is definitely my FAVOURITE rendering software.
Congratulations to the programming team.

Now, back to the subject of this topic : I don't know if anyone has already done or tried this, but I just discovered the following trick by chance = it enables you to have a very comfortable Frame Rate while working in 3DSMax Viewport AND Rendering at the same time.

I discovered this while working with instances, but I guess it could be useful too for particularly large single models in any given scene.

Forgive me if this is something "basic" but I couldn't resist sharing this with the community.
;)

Cheers to all,

Madcoo

Have you tried max 2014? It's miles faster than 2012 with instances. And the same with octane if you tick the movable proxy box. :)

No I didn't have the opportunity to try Max2014 :-( thanks for the info ;-)

I also discovered that hiding your entire scene also works great, still as long as you don't tick "moveable proxy" - quite useful if you have a heavy scene and want to tune your camera angle comfortably.

select all cars - right click - object properties - display as box. no need to display mesh for octane render.
or put them on a layer and let get properties from layer then you can toggle between dummy and mesh via layer properties.

cheers

Hi Gabriel,
Yes indeed!
I bought CarbonScatter but it "felt" totally uncomfortable, and kept crashing constantly...
So I bought ForestPackPro, and it's just GREAT!
Next week I'm going to work on a project that includes a big car-park, and I'm definitely going to create a distribution map for the cars, this way I'll be able to randomize them quickly and easily.
;)
