Yes, you can download for free Octane 1.5 update....

But if you wish to upgrade to Octane Render 2.0 then you will have to invest some money...(99Euros)

I hope this helps...

ya, you can get 1.5x for free. There is a demo for 2.0 if you want to check the new features out.

A lot changed from 1.0 to 1.5, so be careful. Scenes will render differently because things like glossy materials have changed since 1.0.

Hi Necko 77!

Where I can upgrade 1.2 to 1.5 in my edu account?
And also where I can pay 99E to upgrade to Octane 2.0 for Modo?

Thanks

I'm curious about the upgrading the student account because I'm still stuck with 1.2...
Can someone help me. I'm running Autodesk 2015 Entertainment Suite and I would love to understand the upgrade procedures..

- well, login into your customer area, press "Shop" button - check if you have an "Upgrade from 1.x" button - it should be on the right side of browser window, above "Buy now" buttons - press it and see if it offers any options..

- now because you're using .edu licence, it may not offer the upgrade, so the button may not show up, don't know

- if you have other plugins like 3ds max purchased before, than you have to upgrade the 3d max for 39.99 and standalone for 99.99 at the same time, and it will deduct the 3dmax price of 39.99 on the checkout, making it free, so the total will be 99.99 - but if you didn't purchase the additional plugin before, it will probably cost the full price - again not sure

Okay I'm not really getting clear answers... Can someone link me to the appropriate link that will allow me to upgrade to student license. I would like to understand my options before I make a purchase.
Currently I realize the student license is suppose to be adjusted but the information is dated months ago. No relevant information about this situation with the student license has been posted. I realize the program is very affordable...... yet currently I'm still a student not planning any professional projects and 30 days isn't enough time to learn any render but KeyShot and what use is that when you are studying animation. I'm willing to pay for my upgrade I just would like to see a better layout of my options before I decide. Currently the only student license available is the 1.2... Thank you again for your understanding and generosity.

Simple it comes down to three options:
  • Option 1: You pay for the software, the full price as there are no discounts for students. And the upgrading discount from 1.x does not count for student licences. So you would pay $450 (standalone + plugin).
  • Option 2: You wait patiently until they release 1.5 or hopefully 2.0 for students. But this might or might not take a while, what seems a totally normal thing as autodesk uses the exact same release strategy.
  • Option 3: You go find a different renderer, mentalray and iray are not that bad ;)
I`m also excited to get to use those awesome features of 2.0 and I would have loved to use them for my exam 3D graphics this week.
Sure its a bit frustrating, but consider yourself lucky that you got a student license. Students outside the US don`t have access to octane at all...

PS: Did they even release student 1.2 for autodesk 2015 products?

Okay not an official answer and not even close to being relevant information. Administration only please, not interested in sarcasm from guessing individuals who doesn't even know the compatibility of the Octane's plugins.

Specifically a date or timeframe for the updated student's version or an upgrade-cost for non-commercial users...

Student upgrades to 1.55 are on the to do list, after finishing all the 2.0 commercial updates this month and next. If you want to get a newer version before then, you will have to buy it. Student license are free, commercials ones are on the store page, We don't have a 3rd option at the moment. We would be open to feedback as we introduce new pricing tiers down the line for commercial customers on a budget.
