I think its very clear from this discussion you need to buy standalone and plugin per slave.

You need a stand alone license for each slave and yes Max Plugin has network rendering

No, currently you have to buy a Standalone license per slave, NOT a plugin license.

Thanks! I bought a second license and I think it works.
My main machine has titan with 5 Gb of available memory and second one that i networked only 1 Gb 590 TI When I open preview render it says I have 5 and then it says NET GPU 1/1 but I thought we only have memory of the card with the smallest amount of memory Shouldn't I have only 1 Gb available. Thanks

I read through the documentation before starting this - and knew immediately this was not going to be straightforward, despite the apparent simplicity of the procedure.
I plan to use octane network distributed rendering with 3dsmax. I have an octane v2 license on both machines. On the slave machine (i.e. not the machine which i am using for 3dsmax) i have run the script "_install_daemon.bat". I used the default port settings & GPU default all. I also tried running the script "_run_installed_daemon.bat". I also manually tried running "octane_slave.exe" & also "octane_slave_daemon.exe". I also tried "start octane daemon" from the Otoy windows Start menu.
Nothing happens - none of that opens up any windows that give me any information. I cant see anything that indicates anything is running in the background. Back on the master (which the manual does not say anything about - it does not say you have to run any scripts on the master - although i tried that too since nothing is working) - when i open up the network preferences (either from max or from octane standalone) I get nothing showing up in the Daemon Overview. I have tried disabling the firewalls on both computers and also i tried adding exceptions to the firewalls for all the octane related programs & ports.
Is there any other documentation or does anyone have suggestions ?

Hi ltchest,

Have tried running octane_slave.exe from the command line or did you try just double clicking it from the windows file explorer?
The daemon and slave run in a command prompt so it should at least flick up a window with a black screen and some text for a split second, even if something goes wrong and it quits immediately.

Are you familiar with the command prompt at all?

unfortunately i have not familiarity with command line prompt. do you mean window "cmd" ? or is it something else ? anyhow, i dont know how to run anything that way. I have run the provided script and i can see that " run_octane_slave_daemon.bat" has been installed in the startup folder - but after windows reboots there is no new terminal window as there should be.
