Hi ahhhchuen,
1. maybe duplicate geometry "on the fly" and reclaim memory after loaded into GPU?
I haven't figured out a clean solution yet. The solution you proposed will cause a lot of problems when updating materials or geometry because it would be very hard to maintain. Right now all materials and geometry are interactively updated. This flexibility comes with a cost of not supporting two-sided materials.
5. not "selection", sectioned model using the "section plane" tool in SU
Ah yeah, it's section indeed :) Sorry. It's not supported by OctaneRender. I think it's on Octane roadmap. When this feature is released for Octane Standalone it would be available for Sketchup plugin.
6. IES light like those I found in 3dsmax plugin
It works just like in Octane Standalone
Diffuse Material -> Emission -> Emission Texture -> IES image

I'll check the scenes and will try to figure out what might be wrong.

Thank you!

Hi fuzzybro,

Thank you for your reply.

For 1. my experience with SU is that it take us many hours of work to figure out the front/back side material, flip the faces, re-apply materials and/or add faces for plugins that doesn't support 2 side materials.

Since I already have much pre-built 3d library in SU, I will trade "interactive geometry update" for "2 side material."

Shaderlight can do both.

Of course this is my story only, you shall gather other opinions.

Hello and thank you for the info.

we'll wait for it patiently. :)

@ahhhchuen
-- i have the same problem - it is a big problem with a big model that has exported in a long time and you'll find out in Octane that a face is backwards and you have to re-export to fix it. But after doing this a few times i started to check the faces before exporting using the built - in tool in skp.

Firstly, awesome plugin! You should be able to sell a squillion copies as it is the best renderer integration for SketchUp I have used.

Now to the problem. If I try to use a material from the LiveDB that includes references to other files e.g. displace.jpg the referenced files cannot be found. The LiveDB works fine in OctaneRender 2.0, just not in the Plugin.

Many thanks.

Hi Dedbeez,

Thanks! We'll get there :)
As for the problem, which material from LiveDB give the issue?

Thanks,

Ummm, any/all [edit: some seem to work] materials that includes some form of external map. Step by step below:

1. Open SketchUp and start new scene.
2. Draw cube.
3. Select a material from the Octane Materials menu (for this test I chose: Materials > Organic > Wood > Basket
4. Click Download. Wait...
A file explorer window opens with the title of "Please select missing file: diffuse.jpg"
A file explorer window opens with the title of "Please select missing file: diffuse.jpg"
...and a few more after that.
5. The material "basket" is now under the Scene section of the Materials box but without maps.

EDIT: Have gotten one to work! I tried 7 random materials 1 worked.

hello there mate, just tested that and all worked ok. all materials I have tested from LiveDB have downloaded correctly.

Your firewall can be blocking something when downloading files.

cheers

Great work! I was waiting for it for some time. Is it to early to ask for some minor features?

I miss the dof picker and the white point picker from standalone. But what I would like most, is the linear workflow. The sun/sky/environment light is a little buggy. When I exit, the settings reset and the hdr file gets lost. ( I hope it's happening as it's still beta)

One question too. Is it possible, after exporting to standalone, to refresh geometry only (like a link) ? I did it a lot with the tig exporter. This is very useful in archviz, when a client whants to change geometry and you had already moved to standalone for some more editing.

Thanks again fo the plugin

Hi Dedbeez,

It'e either the firewall or Windows is preventing Sketchup to write files to /User/Documents/Octane/ folder. All temp and livedb textures are stored there. Please check if those folders are empty and report back to me, I'll try to figure out what's wrong.

Thanks

Hi neo83_gr,

I'll add dof picker a bit later.
Camera response is also missing for now but I'll fix that shortly.
I'll check the issue with the hdr environment. Some weird stuff might happen from time to time cause it's an early open beta.

As for exporting, you can try to substitute geometry .obj and .mtl files and open the project in Standalone. That should work but I don't guarantee that result is going to be ok.

Thank you!
