I have a scene with 10 bounces in v1.55, adjusted in v2.0 with 4 diffuse bounces an 10 glossy bounces and I have a nearly similar sampling rate.
Not sure the result will be the same in terms of luminosity, but it seems that the number of diffuse bounces is very sensitive in V2.0.

I was using the DL Kernel and AO speculardepth 4 for both 1.55 and 2.0 in my test results. They didn't seem to change the settings for this Kernel but the speed is slower. I will test the Path Tracing render speeds later this week sounds like maybe the speed difference may not be so different between 1.55 and 2.0 in that kernel.

In my last try, 4 diffuse bounces weren't enought, picture was darker, I will try with 5

I want to upgrade but first I would like to know if I can have 2.0 installed (3dsmax plugin) side by side with the previous version?

This is mostly for reasons of stability and speed. Also if I upgrade to 2.0 can I still use my old 1.0+ license as this would be a much safer way to transition as I am sure 2.0 has some quirks to be ironed out etc.

I am hoping the answer is yes to all of that as I want to upgrade and play with all the new toys :-)

You can use both versions on the same computer. I am doing it now. I am running 1.55 in 3ds Max 2015 and Running 2.0 in 3ds Max 2014. I didn't intended to do this but found out that the update for 3ds Max 2015 in 2.0 is not out yet. It's great for testing and they both work fine.

Do you have to re-actvate each time you change from 2014 to 2015 ?

You have to upgrade the standalone version and the plugin together. You will only pay for the standalone version.
