Hi Paul
I have been trying spend some time learning Octane for Rhino this afternoon and was being frustrated by there not being an available live db.
Perhaps I don't have the latest download and I am not sure where to find the latest version.
So, I switched to the standalone version (120) and discovered that every attempt to place a db material crashed Octane.
I then tried to use Stand Alone ver 1.29 and discovered that it will not import OBJ files. I solved that by opening the OBJ file with ver 120 (Stand Alone) then saving it to .ocs and opening that file with ver 129. Then I could use the live db files and am getting some practice about handling them.
Will there be an octane live db in the Rhino plug in? Will it behave similarly to the Stand Alone version or will it have to be assigned directly to Rhino layers first?
cheers,
eric

Full support for the LiveDb is included in the Rhino plugin already (both in this 1.20 STABLE release and the 1.29 TEST release). What specific issue are you having accessing the LiveDb materials? It is returning on error, and if so, what is that error pls?

Hi Paul ...
Thanks for the reply. It was simply my ignorance. It does not show up as it does in the Stand Alone version so I looked and decided it was not there. After your note an little exploring showed it up under 'Libraries' which makes sense.
But, I still have not discovered how to open .obj files in the stand alone version of 1.29. Maybe that's another forum? And maybe I won't need it now that I am discovering how to use the Rhino plug-in,
cheers,
eric

Hi Eric
I need to update the manual for 1.29, so my apologies that this was not documented correctly. The LiveDb materials can be accessed in the Rhin plugin by going into the Material panel, creating a new Octane material, and at the bottom of the "Octane Material" panel click the "Load from the Live DB" button to load a Live Db material into this Octane material.
For loading an OBJ into Octane Standalone, rightclick the node editor canvas and select Geometry->Mesh (then select the OBJ file you want to load).

This version is now obsolete - pls refer to the new TEST and STABLE threads of this forum for the new releases.

That video is suppose to be a tutorial for your customers? I'm sorry to be rude but that's terrible...
One would think that otoy would find it in its best interest to provide customers with a solid foundation to be successful and in turn have their software raved about boosting sales.
But I guess that's crazy talk.
