Great video, great machine.
Yes - Frank is right - seems that there is too much thermal compound on the CPU, but your temps are very very low - 40C on each of the GPUs is amazing.
Is there a single D5 pump? Or I missed something.

but again, PCIe lanes doesn't effect render speed - at all, as the only thing that would be effected is scene upload time. GPU Render speed should be exactly the same before & after upgrade.

Im visiting every week this forum as great people with lots of knowledge is registered on forum and active in posts, so I'm not hiding
Thats why i reactivate this topic to discuss this machine hardware and "why" is now faster then before.
The nature of my 3D projects is connected with "confidential" contracts as I'm working for Gasprom, JC Decaux, etc...
Thats why i can't post in Octane gallery my renders
and i don't have time for personal artworks
I will explane a bit more about my work on machine hardware and usage.
thermal paste
lots of comments for thermal paste have been made. I have to comment that as I'm monitoring temperatures from outside ( liquid cooling temp ) and via software. While rendering videos in Premier or 3D on CPU ( full load ) temps never get higher then 42C, which is great result. GPU thermal paste - also the same as above, rendering for 24-7, 10 days in a row temps never get higher then 39C to 44C. So thermal paste application is fine.
water cooling rig
readed a lot comments, text articles, blogs on the web how you never should leave your water cooling rig to work more then 24h because something can happened. What can happened ?
only more rendering to archive more work / money exploitation. On motherboard there is a protection which activates automatic shutdown if something fails. Its very easy to configurate that. Also, two D5 water pumps are in the system, if one fails, second will continue to work. Also, with two pumps, pressure in the system on pumps mechanics is less - smoother work.
PCIe 3.0
Thats what i want to discuss. On previous motherboard and processor seems while rendering that machine can't "breathe". While i was moving
mouse cursor, explorer or something else it was slow, very slow like everything will stop in a second. Now, projects are loading faster and everything works smooth as didn't before. Maybe the key problem was in CPU, maybe in PCIe speed, dunno... but I'm happy now
OCTANE benchmark
DIRECT LIGHTING - its funny as when i opened the same official benchmark scene on previous configuration, I've got result of 85-90 Ms/sec. You can see it in my video posted on youtube before one year. Now, after reconfiguration when i open it its 180 Ms/sec... whattt
really surprised ! Path tracing and PMC are faster for small values. Nothing big to mention
And at the end, here is the render I've did recently with previous config, which I'm able to publish on line.
This is all my product design. All of those products are manufactured for real.

Cool setup 
The thing that I would suggest for a water cooled setup is to put one Titan into this and leave out one 690.
So 3 x 690 + 1 x Titan. Then you have a lot VRAM in case you need it (even when it is only one card). With water cooling it is hard to swap cards...

But Octane will still only see 2GB of VRAM because it only uses the card with the lowest VRAM. A 690 is two 2GB cards SLI'd in one chassis giving you 4GB total (if you're gaming). Octane and most other renders out there only see half of the a dual GPU cards' memory (2GB in this case).Refracty wrote:Cool setup

In order for him to see 6GB with a Titan installed he would need to disable the rest of the cards and use just the one Titan. Doesn't really make sense to do that from a speed/performance perspective. If he were to want to do that, it would make more sense financially to go with the new 780 6GB. It's a touch slower than the Titan but a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

I think that's what he meant. At least if you needed that much Vram, you could use just the Titan.

Ah. Reading his post over again he could be meaning that in the parentheses. I thought he might of meant as in adding 'just one Titan'. my apologies for being confused and I should of noticed his post count, so he probably already knows thisgordonrobb wrote:I think that's what he meant. The biggest project I've been working on took 1.6 GB of RAM.. that was only one time.
As I'm working a lot on mechanics and simple environment / interior renderings as you can see above, i really don't need 6 gb of vram..
Who knows whats years will bring us in technology, heard that new 790 cards will have 5 GB of VRAM and more then 5000 cores per card..can you image what will be in next 3 to 4 years when i will replace those cards
