Nah I like Maxwell and it offers a lot of features. Especially for product rendering and caustics.
But for my services and production pipeline Octane delivers me a lot more. My clients usually don't care about super realistic caustics.

For the topic:
I'm not a lawyer or something like that, but if he lives in Texas he can't sell it. The link is only for EU people.
For example if you now like to sell an Adobe product you also can do it here now. All you need is to fill a form and all licenses get transfered to the new owner.

The bunch of forum threads posted here seem like if people sell it and then hand over their login data to the new user. As it seems this is not allowed from OTOY and could bring them into trouble if they are professionals and get checked in some way. At least it could be a problem here in Germany. No idea for other Countries.

Best solution: Keep you nice Octane license and do awesome stuff with it. ;)

I totally agree with that : I have an indigo license, a Render Thea license, and I have never used them since I know Octane, but I have no willing to sell them. Tools are complimentary and who knows if one day I may need a specific feature of one of them. having several render engines under the elbow may save you one day.

Thanks for the advice guys, maybe in the future the law will change. In the meantime I'll keep using it, I'm sure their are many people with countless licenses laying around, which makes me feel even better! Best read the fine print more next time I buy something this expensive, as it is just a hobby for me. One day I would like to get Redshift, like you say caustics hardly contribute to a render, it's the material system that matters most for me and to be able to render animation quickly.
