Hello all,

I just purchased octane today at a price I could not pass up.
I would like to say thanks to the developers for all the hard work
this product seems to be coming along nice. I am an architect
that does not do simple geometry and am having some problems. It seems that the normal either vertex or face
are getting totally messed up when i bring it into octane. I am using maya 2011 i have rebuilt them and have made
sure they are not flipped and nothing works can some one please help i would like to continue to learn and use
octane but may have to jump back to maxwell if this cannot be fixed. I am attaching some images.

thanks, Jimmy

Is that a ngon, also a polygon with more then 4 vertices?
Then you should convert it to quads or better for Octane, to tris.

Hi,

You should check your export scale, it needs to be in meters.
Or use the obj prefs panel in octane's file menu to change it before loading the mesh.

Hey, Guys

Thanks for your help.

_the model is all quads in maya. I have tried exporting the geometry as both quads and Triangles with no difference in the rendering.
I have posted the model below, I have also included an image of the model with the normals on as you can see they are all pointing in
the correct direction and i have checked none of them are flipped.
_because this is for an architecture competition we are in the early massing phase so there will be alot more detail that goes into this model.
The units are meters in maya and meters for the export and the import into octane.

I have also included an quick rendering from maxwell as you can see this is the same geometry and same obj file and it renders fine. (this rendering was done from the maxwell standalone no plugin).

Hopefully we can get this worked out.

best, J

Hi,

You need to use the right import scale, as in my previous message.

I am a little unclear on this the model is in meters and I am importing in meter just as you said and this was still the out come.

in octane under obj prefs the import scale is set Meter=Meters if this is not right let me know.

Thanks, j

can you post the maya file of the mesh here so i can ask our maya users to have a look at it ?
if you don't want to share it publically, you can email it to me zipped.
