Hey all, just wondering, since I didn't find anything in the forums, can we sell our license? If we can, I would like to have a general idea of how that works, does the buyer have to use my account? How do I get paid, through paypal, etc. I'm stumped. Any info you can give would be great. Thanks! (:

I would imagine how you sell and get paid is completely up to you. Paypal is a good option although it has costs.

The issue is if you can, and how, you transfer the licence. Best bet would be contact OTOY through their website I would think.

Thanks for the help gordonrobb, I'll wait for the team to respond to this. I'm not too worried about a hard time selling, it seems octane is getting very popular, 1.2 mill. facebook likes! I'm just worried about how secure the transaction would be and if of course I can even sell it.

Wow, that's quite a shame, the first time I've actually seen this, I see many people sell C4D, Vray, and even Autodesk licenses all the time. I really don't understand why I shouldn't be able to sell something I essentially own, no different than selling a dvd in a garage sale. So, in a nutshell I have a license I'm throwing in the garbage and Otoy has one less customer who would possibly support the community and also upgrade their octane license. Sorry to be blunt like that, but I really thought this wouldn't be a problem anymore in 2014. It doesn't help the customer or otoy, so obviously this must be temporary I hope, for other users like me? Thanks for the help though. :?

Actually it is against European law to prohibit resale of used software licenses.
There was a decision from highest European court that all EU citizens are allowed to resale their software so the specific paragraph in the EULA does not count for People living in EU.

I had the same with my maxwell render license which I wanted to sale because I switched to octane and didn't use it for ages.
Nextlimit charges a license transfer fee which around 250€. So you are allowed to sell but it won't make much sense because the buyer would have to pay you plus the fee to Nextlimit. ;)

In the second link he states otoy said this to him, keep in mind he is from texas, at least that is what his info says. It's also a 2014 post.

"The OctaneLive license keys are non-transferable and there are no license transfers accepted on our end. If a license owner would like to pass on the software and the license key to a third party, then we assume this will be an agreement or arrangement between the license owner and the third party. The third party can use the license key that the owner has chosen to relinquish in order to activate a copy of OctaneRender, but the registration username is the same and the license key will remain under the same account. Any customer area support we can provide in terms of the related license key/s and OctaneRender editions will still be channeled through that respective account and the owner whose email address and details reflects that account."

So I just don't understand, was this legal? He is not EU citizen, how was he able to sell in Texas? Sorry to bother you about this, their should really be someone from the team assisting me. I feel bad about your Maxwell transfer fee, I used the demo for awhile, it's quite obvious why you left to octane, even on my quad core it was horribly slow, especially for indoor rendering.

Can someone please help? I'm not in a hurry to sell but I like to get things done and Otoy won't respond through their email. It would be greatly appreciated.
