Hello.
Since I've installed Octane 1.5x (at the moment it's 1.53.1) I've had some issues with some hair-textures/meshes after exporting from Poser (Pro 2014, last update) to Octane.
As you can see on the picture it seems that some parts of the transmapped geometry/mesh of the hair interferes with the mesh/maps of the head so I get some drop-outs and black dots/edges. I've checked the poser-geometry and the setting in the scene - the hair prop fits exactly to the V4-character. But it's not possible to render the correct geometry in octane - in Poser itself I get a correct render when I use the firefly engine.
Is there any setting on octane to prevent this?
Also I've found that octane doesn't import some of the transmaps so I have to do this manually every time I import a poser-mesh containing transmaps into octane; In this case the map isn't there. I can see in the nodes that there should be a ALPHAMAP but there isn't because the poser-map is a JPG. This happens for the lashes and the hair-transmaps.

Hi - there is a forum for Poser questions - and posts there are more likely to get noticed by the Poser people.
In response to your question - this is a "rayepsilon" issue. Pls see the manual page at http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=210. In summary - set rayepsilon to 0.

Hey,
since I've also been working a lot with the SAV Alpha Scalp I can report that the cause of thi error is actually not a rayepsilon value but the hair prop geometry overlapping / intersecting with the mesh geometry of your character (for example Vicky 4).
The easiest - and in my oppinion only - way how to fix this is to adjust the size of the hair prop so that it doesnt overlap with the figure geometry.
Adjusting the rayepsilon value to a lower one does get rid of the black dots you're getting but doesn't fix the actual problem.
Plus adjusting the rayepsilon value can increase render times.

...thank you (and thank you for moving my post into the proper section of the forum)
Actually I have this problem with most of the SAV-Hair-files - but it's much better when I change the ray-epsilon value... (didn't know that from the handbook until now)
I've made some morphs for the SAV-Scalp but although I tried there are still some gaps in the rendered pictures so at the moment changing the ray-e seems to be the only way to use the hair-files.

It's been awhile since I messed with these types of hair (well it wasn't SAV but some other), but I seem to remember setting the scalp opacity to 0 to fix the problem. Might try and give that a whirl.MyRho wrote:...thank you (and thank you for moving my post into the proper section of the forum)

Set scalp opacity to 0 may not help, because the vertices are still in the scene. Instead, if the scalp is a separate item in the scene, try setting the plugin->Materials tab->scalp prop->General Visibility to 0. I haven't tried this, but worth testing. Also, you should be able to enter a value of 0 for rayepsilon. But as TRRazor says, having the scalp (or hair) prop NOT intersecting with the figures head vertices is the best fix.

If you have Poser 10/2014 there is another solution which worked pretty well for me: In Poser set the scene to "Hidden Line". Go closeup to the face and you will see where the skull cap intersects with the hair. Now use the morphbrush on the hair with the "tight fitting" option and a margin .00002 to remove the intersecting polygons outside of the skull.
It takes a a few seconds and makes a better fitting as just making it larger.

Thank you! Didn't know that.

Although I don't like reviving threads - I thought I'd post a nice workaround to this problem.
When you're having the same problems like the thread creator, try using the new Fitting Room in Poser 9 / 2014.
Make sure to set a very low distance (especially with scalps) betwen the figure and the hair geometry. Click Fit and you should get a perfectly conformed hair prop/figure.
This helped me in a lot of instances where I had heavily morphed figures and wanted to use hair props on them.
