Hi,
I just bought a GTX 690 on ebay and it was sold as 'spares or repair'. The GPU apparently works but the screen it displays is artifacting.
I was wondering if I connect this as a 2nd GPU and dont use it for any displays, whether or not I can use it for rendering?
Will the fact its artifacting the display affect the render capability (hypothetically)?
I bought it on the off chance this might work as it was only £100 -worth a go to potentially have access to 3000 cuda cores for cheap.
Cheers.

Hey Eric. Hopefully you should have no probs... hopefully.
If it were me (I'm assuming this isn't Hydro Copper), just in case this is an overheating issue, that isn't being seen in monitoring app: I would completely take it apart > remove the thermal pads that sit between the heatsink, GPUs, VRMs and VRAM > completely clean everything like a mofo with 90% alcohol - including fan > apply Arctic Nano Diamond 7 to GPUs, VRMs and VRAM and put it back together and see if display artifacts are still there. Maybe they will and maybe you will still be fine.

Hey bro - for all we know, the dumbass who sold this to you was trying to run this with a 350W PSU... I would think that could cause artifacts too...

Well after much excitement about getting GTX 690 for £100, the thing arrived and it turned out to be a cheap 1gb ATI card. Doh!
Ended up buying a brand new GTX670 and decided not to waste my time on bargain GPU's again.

Well it came in a GTX 690 box so the seller claimed that's what they thought it was. Got a refund without too much trouble
