hi

i have a student license so i'm posting this here.
is there an octane based stress test to determine weather a graphics card is corrupting computations?
you know if a card is old and failing, or for factory/user overclocked cards such as superclocked/FTW?

i picture something that can be looped which checks the output on each pass and halts when errors occur.

thanks :geek:

no there isn't =)however the best strest test is take a huge scene (that could top You vram)set the samples up to something like 64000 (so You would not reach it fast) & leave for a while =) there's a log (I never used it though) that could point something out if octane is going to crash =) If You want to monitor GPU itself instal GPUZ - it will give You all parameters of You're GPU while it's running & You can tick a box to output log too =) alternativelly, You can get some realworld workload, by rendering something on CPU, so the combination would put load to PSU =) some systems fail not because of GPU's but because of other factors.

thanks for the reply. i tried what you suggested. i set up a complex scene with a few figures and some glass items. opened the log and started pushing my cards clock. the log showed no errors but my rendering had artifacts in it. i'm going to try rending pictures twice to see if the image produced has the same MD5.

what exactly does GPUZ log?

i hear you about other factors. my PSU/CPU are rock solid.

thanks again for the suggestions. 8-)

what do You mean? post an image or so..

GPUz logs everything related to GPU condition, from voltages, to workloads, fan speeds & etc...

didn't save the image. it was 1000x667 pixels. let it run for 16000 samples.
had a lot of multicolored pixels in it. like render noise. i'll render another, and post an image.

ou, that's probably what is called fireflies =) there are different way to fight those =) personally I'm working' with bigger resolutions & blurring image in Octane a bit - this is helps to get rid of those pretty fast =) check my signature (there's a free scene, if You want to play too =)

your right, it is fireflies. the render was in direct sunlight and had a lot of glass and reflective materials.

i like your project. giving everyone the same scene and looking for solutions together. bravo! :ugeek:
will definitely be playing around with that.
